Fools gold April 1st

I purchased a set of AP1s a little over a year ago and have become a respectable iron player ever since. I have shaved a few strokes from my cap and hit many more greens in regulation than ever. Last summer I switched to ProV1x at the suggestion of my brother in law. Forget the rest, although I won't sneeze at the "old" Prov1 if it is in my Christmas stocking.

I shot my best round in over a year on Saturday, March 31st, so I decided to pay the next day even though I planned to sit it out. Thanks to my driver, the Sunday front nine was miserable. But we had a game going and there was no option to quit at the turn. I started to warm up on the back and strung together some respectable shots. I was feeling positive on the par three 16th hole after snaking in a par putt on number two handicap 15th hole. Number 16 is an uphill par three with the green about 75 feet higher than the tee box. The pin was front right. I made one of my best swings and we saw the ball and directly in front of the pin and disappear. Given the uphill angle, we couldn't tell what appended, although one of my partners was pretty bullish that it had gone in.

As we approached the green, my cart partner told me to close my eyes. He shook me when we arrived at the green and said there was only one ball visible, which we knew was his as it was 20 feet left of the flag. Our playing partner had missed the green. I was too stunned to move and our playing partner practically ran to the hole to confirm what we knew but I still couldnt believe. There sat my ProV1x (number 8) with my traditional V mark under the numeral.

After a few high fives and call outs to our buddies on the hole behind us, we proceeded to the 17th hole, a dogleg right par 4. Still unnerved, and not caring much since my round was nothing special, I teed up the hole in one ball, before coming to my senses as number 17 has trouble right and left. I re-teed and promptly hit another brand new ProV1x OB. Who cares.

That's it for the golf. I texted my wife once we finished to let her know the good news. Her response was to call me out for April Fools, not once but twice. She has seen me play a few times so it wasn't unjustified. My college freshman son had the same reaction.

Drinks were purchased in the club house but I will be buying a keg for my golf group later this season.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Every word is gospel truth.
