My first ace after 60 years
By john l On 6 September 2011
9/5/11 hole7, a 196yard uphill par3 at Blackstone National GC in Sutton Mass. I set up as usual after my pre-shot routine. After contact the ball flight was perfectly shaped from right to left and directly on target. The only problem was that because the sun had just come out from behind a cloud and we were looking directly into it, it made seeing the landing very difficult. When we arrived at the green I was disappointed to see no balls on the green. My playing partners had missed the green so I walked to the front of the green and down into a little swail where the ball would be if it had come up short. I saw nothing. Then I said to Bob, one of my playing partners, "just for the hell of it look in the hole". Now we've all said that about a million times and of course it's never in there.
This time it was! The celebration now began on the green and after completing our round continued for quite a while in the clubhouse. I'm 60 years old and have been playing just about my entire life and this is my first ace. Needless to say, I'm thrilled.
