One of 3 Aces in a single day
By Jonathan Y On 7 September 2011
It was April 27, 2003. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was playing with my buddy, Walter, in our club’s Two-Man Club Championship. I didn't start out too well. I got a bogey on the first hole (3rd) and was feeling discouraged. Then I came to our second hole (4th). I struck a solid shot onto an uphill par 3. Due to the steep slope, the hole itself was not visible from the tee box. Satisfied with my shot, I went back to my bag to put my club back into my bag. We thought it was strange because after my shot the foursome in front of us were being very animated but did not make any sound. Later I realized that they weren’t able to make any noise, because someone was teeing off in their own group. So there was this long delay after my shot, but they later screamed and told us that my ball went in the hole! I was happy since it was my first ace, but I had to calm myself down because I still had 16 holes to go in a tournament. I told myself that I can always celebrate later. What's more I was a little disappointed to be honest since I never saw my ball go in.
After all the excitement settled among us, Larry from the other Two-Man Team in my foursome walked up to me and said “How am I gonna beat that, Jonathan?” Then he proceeded to tee off. Lo and behold Larry put another ball in the same hole on top of my ProV1x resting in the cup! Now can you imagine what the foursome on the next tee was doing? They were jumping up and down and screaming like little school boys after witnessing a rare back to back hole in one! After many congratulations, I picked up my Titleist Pro V1x 332 in my bag and continued the round. Later in the day, we learned that a third hole-in-one was scored on the same hole after our back to back ace! It must be some kind of record, I thought to myself. But the best new for me that day was the fact that Walter and I won the tournament by 1 stroke thanks to my hole-in-one! It was the best golfing day so far in my life. I am so glad that I always played Titleist ball, because it just looks that much better being displayed on my office wall next to the official tournament scorecard showing two “1’s” on the same hole.
