One rainy day
By Mike R On 6 September 2011
Playing in Acworth Georgia early Labor Day morning 2011 at Cobblestone GC and hoping to get the round in due to Tropcial depression Lee heading towards Atlanta. Not the greatest conditions but with 3 good friends playing a little skins game with 2-3 other groups. After a soaky front nine and a little discussion at the turn about continuing I run in to buy a glove as my other one is to wet. Luckly we played most of the back nine without rain. In good spirits after JP gets up and down out of the bunker on 15 for birdie, which held up as 1 of the 3 skins out this day, we strole to the 16th tee which sits directly on Lake AcWorth and is an awesome view - what a piece of property. I walked on the tee box to view the yardage marker, accounted for the pin placement and called out the yardage. perfect knock off wedge for me. Left is dead - Lake Acworth and right is no bargin with a deep bunker. Considering we were playing for skins and this was the last par 3 I really wanted to win closest to the hole and get on the board in the game. As soon as I hit it I knew I caught it perfect - two bounces later and a bit of Tileist spin off the slope and pulls back 7-8 feet in the hole and we all get to watch it go in like a putt. A moment of disbelief is then followed with joy and some high fives with Tom, Chris and JP. Skin won me $96 and the bar bill was $120, so not bad. BTW - thx for inviting me JP!!
