Stephen Berger 15

My son Stephen begs me to take him out to any course but I can't take him often. As we drove to Deer Valley, I told him it was going to be a rough day. 20-30 mph winds are just brutal. Stephen 15 has played about 20 rounds in his life with a set of jr clubs that where given to him and where mismatched. They had been too small for too long and a friend offered for him to borrow their full sized set which had been cut down 1 inch. We picked them up and they were not in great shape with worn grips and oxidation build up on the shafts. I didn't know how he was going to do so I prepared him for the worst. Unfamiliar clubs, High winds, his competitive nature, he didn't care, he was just excited to go. He pared the 1st 3 holes and was beating me by 1 so he was very happy at that point. I teed off on the par 3 and hit the green, gave him a little pressure, and he teed off. The ball flew nice, straight into the 20mph wind to the elevated green, bounced on the green, hit the stick and three grounds crew workers who where watching yelled "It's in the hole". Stephen ran to the green and was one big smile the rest of the day. I think he even smiled through the night in his sleep. He has an amazing natural swing. It wont be long 'til he is shooting in the 70's. Who knows, if I can get him a decent set of clubs what he would be able to do.
