It's raining, let's get in

My watched showed the middle of the green at 154yds. I normally line up between the markers but on this occasion I took a position a couple of feet back; am I glad I did! Through the summer I've been taking lessons from our PGA pro Duncan Williamson and it was one of his drills I was using when I struck the 5 iron. I had one shot left of my handicap standing on the 15th tee and vowed if I doubled bogeyed or worse, I wasn't going to drag my partners up the 17th and 18th to only reach the buffer. The day had started badly with me snapping a lace on my shoes so I was wearing one black and one brown - would this be lucky or unlucky! I had a few putts horse-shoe out and some bad drives into the punishing rough followed by some sclaffy iron shots - so the laces were a no-no. Our three ball had all now NR'd and were playing the 16th for the last chance for a magic two before walking in as the rain was pretty near constant. The 16th is protected by bunkers around the sides and a deep burn guards the front, my two playing partners John and Allan were in one each. Anyway, the shot was a sweet one and moved about two feet left to right and DINK! - STRAIGHT IN THE HOLE...! We all heard the thunk but weren;t 100% sure. John was the first one to reach the green and took a peek in the hole and shouted over it was in the hole - but John is a bit of a joker and I replied something to the effect he was pulling my leg. However, seeing the brand new Pro V1x at the bottom of the cup was a sight to behold. My heart lept about a thousand feet and I'm sure the whole course heard my shout of glee. S'funny - because I had a session at the Physio the day before for a lower back problem - can't wait to see their faces when I tell them that story! Kirkhill has the best practice facilities around the area and coupled with a great PGA pro who is focussed on youth development, I have to pass some of the credit to the benefits of being part of a very friendly and well equipped golf course. I've been a member here for 10 happy years and later in the year a group of 16 of us are going to Oulton Hall in Leeds to play a Scotland vs England challenge match - borrowing from the Ryder Cup format
