Mark McLeod & Hugh Kinniburgh DOUBLE HOLE IN ONE
By TITLEISTUSER On 30 June 2017
On the 20th June 2017 Hugh and myself faced off in the Lanbroker Trophy at Lanark Golf Club ( scratch matchplay knockout competition). I was 2up at the turn and had the honour of the tee on the par 3 tenth playing 149yards. The hole was playing down wind to a pin position middle left so I hit a smooth wedge which was tracking direct for the flag I saw it bounce and disappear in the shadows around the flag (the green is surrounded by trees and as the sun was setting it was difficult to see the ball on the green due to all the shadows) I assumed my ball was close or it was either over the back as there is a 3 foot fall off. Hugh then stood up to play but after some in-decision he changed his club from 7 iron to a 6 iron. He struck his shot which was straight down the flag as I was walking towards the green I shouted back " good golf swing" I saw his ball bounce once then twice and then disappear to which I shouted back " I think you are big and over the back of the green". As I got closer to the green I could see that there were no golf balls on the green so I walked round the back off the green expecting to see both golf balls sitting there but none were visable. Around 5 yards through the green there is a group of trees which has heavy rough so I was about to start looking in there when Hughie shouted " I'm going to check the hole" I stood there awaiting his reaction (saying to myself your wasting your time checking the hole Hugh). His reaction was he took off his hat and put his hand out as he walked towards me we shook hands as he said " congratulations buddy" my response was "who's in the hole" and he responded "we both are" we then both started going mental and in Hughies words body pumping around the green in utter disbelief as to what had just happened. We had just halved the 10th hole in hole in 1s. We then took a selfie and a picture of the balls in the hole - as you do, before commencing to the 11th tee. I went on to beat Hugh 3and2. I had not known Hugh before the match it would be a case if we crossed paths a simple hello would be said however after this incredible feat we have bonded for life even though I'm 28 and Hughie is 63. It just shows the power of golf is so special and how it brings people together. What a great game it is. Mark McLeod handicap 1 Hugh Kinniburgh handicap 4
