Royal Burgess Hole-in-One
By Douglas M On 29 July 2019
On 28th July 2019 I filled in a gap to make a threesome in the Royal Burgess Golf Club Gents Open Competition. The round started well but when I got to the 4th a par 4 i took a 6 and was not very happy when I moved to the next tee where I could see from the 5th tee that the nearest the pin marker for the Competition was within 3 or 4 yards of the hole 182 yards away and i said to my playing partners the only thing left was a hole in one to win the prize. I took out my 5 iron and hit a brilliant shot for me that was heading straight towards the flag but i thought i had hit it so well it was going to be sailing over the back of the green only 5 yards behind the hole. Thankfully I was using a Titleist Pro v1x and it took one bounce next to the hole and jumped in. The rest of the round progressed well until the 10th hole when the rain started. By the time we got to the 12th Green the greens were flooding and the event was suspended, 50 minutes to 1 hour later it had just dried up when the rain came down again and this time the event had to be abandoned. So unfortunately there was no Nearest the Pin Prize for me and it then cost me the required Bottle of Whisky on the bar, which was full with the other golfers all having been pulled in from the course.
