Hi team, I'm based in NZ down on Lake Whakatipu. The local golf centre in Queenstown had a fitting day recently and I was fortunate enough to book a slot with a Titleist rep who fitted me for a driver (that's all we had time for). The key takeaway I had was that the shaft on my current clubs was incorrect, and this was responsible for the large majority of my miss hits. Once we figured out the right shaft and played with a few heads, my shots were incredibly consistent, I was blown away. Consistent strike pattern, head speed, ball speed, ball flight etc. I bought the new driver (GT3 10°, on a Tensei 1k blue shaft), but while I wait for it to be made have been experimenting with my current driver (910D2 9.5°) to try for more consistency. Slower down-stroke etc I'm thinking about switching the shaft on my fairway wood (910F 15°) and/or hybrid (913H 19°) to a stiff shaft (I bought them second hand, near new, with regular flex Mitsubishi Diamana shafts like the driver). I'm curious what the opinions are on whether I can just buy a new shaft and this will do the trick or if it does need to be matched to the head exactly (neither are in budget currently but I don't use the wood and hybrid enough to warrant new ones, the existing will last for a good while yet). The owner of the shop was trying to sell me all new clubs and insisted I couldn't just buy a new shaft, and I get that may be the case for 100% accuracy, but surely you can get a 90% better fit by just switching around shafts without paying for a new head etc also?

If your current driver shaft is incorrect, I'd put it down for good. No need to further set you back in time. Buy new shafts for the fairway/hybrid, but you'll still want to get fit for them. No need to rush, be patient. And remember, we all get excited about new equipment, the novelty will wear off shortly. I always tell people, buy from a good fitter, not a salesman.

The 910 series evolved by the 913 series. There was only one hosel adapter in 910. By 913, hybrids and fairways each had separate adapters. Your 910 fairways is not interchangeable with any later series fairway. The 913 hybrid is interchangeable with any subsequent release. The driver is still interchangeable with any sure fit Titleist driver shaft.

I’m not sure replacing shafts at this point is worth it. All 3 have a resale value of less than a new shaft. Even with a new shaft. But that is your choice. I’d rather set aside the shaft money for your next club(s). Even with the driver, it will take time to work in a different shaft. By then the GT should be in your hands.

What is the deal with Amazon in NZ? If you have that opportunity, go to their online site and type in the type of shaft you want. They sell golf shafts on their site. You might be able to find what you want. Have a good da. Hakuna matata.

Sorry we did not get to visit you beautiful country when we were in Auzzie land. Next time.

Thanks for the thoughts chaps! Have swapped my 910F for a second hand 917 D2 on a stiff shaft, and will keep slugging away with the hybrid for a while till I can get a new one.
    Cheers!
