We're back with another one of your fitting questions answered and this one comes from Alistair F. from London, Ontario...

Q: It's been suggested that my swing speed - around 85 m.p.h. - isn't fast enough to make use of the technology of Titleist Pro V1 or V1x balls.  What thoughts do you have on this?

A: We get this question about swing speed very often but it's important to realize that every golfer has a variety of swing speeds as they move through their bag.

While Alistair’s driver swing speed may be 85 mph, his swing speed with his 5-iron, with his 9-iron, with his sand wedge, and any half wedge shot he's going to hit, is certainly different than that 85 mph swing speed.

And what we need to keep in mind is that the golf ball needs to perform for all those different swing speeds on all those different shots. That's the way we approach it here at Titleist.

When we design golf balls, we are designing with that in mind. The golf ball needs to perform at a high level on all different shots, at all different speeds, for all different golfers.

To say that you can't take advantage of the technology of Pro V1 and Pro V1x with the slower swing speed is absolutely not true. They are designed to work for all golfers at all speeds.

Hello Mike D., Thanks for the post on swing speeds and the Pro Vs. To the point, and full of common sense. Also thanks to Titleist for putting such a great ball on the market. Its easy to see why Titleist is the number one name in golf.

    Play Well,

Hello Mike D. What you say is true. I read the pamphlet they give at the ball fitting, and  switched to V1x because of the length advantage that it gives with the driver. I like the feel when you strike it from the driver though the putter. In fact, I have a friend who asked me about what ball I use, has now switched to the V1s and improved his game from the D to the P..

Great explanation.    Getting fit is the key.

After hearing that lower compression balls were for slower swing speed and unless you swing your driver over 105 you'll never get the benefit from the Prov1x its nice to see these refuted!

Now if you are whacking the expensive ones in the trees/O.B. every hole you might want to re-think that strategy! :-)
