    Why is golf hard?

    That's the beauty of golf and that's why I love the game so much. 

    The challenge you faced from not knowing what the weather is going to be like, the course conditions, where the pins are located, how your swing will be I mean it's different every day and I love it.  I love "going into the unknown".  Just gotta do your best and most importantly have fun.  The more fun you're having (which I'm still learning to do), the better chance of playing well. 

    IMO, golf is probably the hardest, if not the hardest sport to "perfect".

    Good post Jack, would love to hear what other people have to say.

    For me, it's the thrill of the chase knowing you can never beat it, only give it your best effort.

    Every other sport has a defined space to play. No other sport has the terrain define the playing area. How big is a soccer ball and how big is a scoring net? Compare that to moving a 1.25 inch ball 130-600 yards to get it into a 4.25 inch hole. The concept is insane, but I can get a 2 on a par 3. Each hole is another challenge even when playing it over again. As for the skill, any sport requires an effort to develop the skill. Golf is no different. Good news - you can play golf long after tackle football.

    For me, golf is hard because it is the ultimate mental challenge. Hitting the ball requires little effort, but to do it well requires massive discipline. And to do it consistently well requires even more patience, a virtue most don't have. Very few have the ability to play scratch golf, and that is a gift. People don't realize how gifted those that play for a living are, much less the top players in the world.

    For me like most its about getting better. Improving on your score. Learning to shape shots and build a killer short game.

    My Son in Law says it best ( a Former AAA Baseball Pitcher ) "When I played baseball the ball seemed enormous to me, hitting it wasn't a problem.  In golf that dam little ball stares at you and DARES you to hit it"

    I wouldn't trade it for anything.
