    Can you help?

I purchased a set of AP2 irons - after fitting - last year. Unfortunately I also hurt my back last year but am now fully recovered. I expected my handicap to go up initally until such time as I got used to the clubs. What I did not expect was to start hitting the ball out of the socket and I can do it with any club when not expected.

Today I hit a 5 iron which was not quite a full hosel hit and on the second last hole a 9 iron which was 45 degree and sixty yards. The shots were at odds with some of my earlier shots which had 3 one under par after 7 holes.

My handicap has gone up from 2.1 to 3.8 over 1 year and in last 4 weeks have managed to get back down to 3.2.

I know I am not alone as my 2 friends also purchased AP2 irons last year (again both fitted) and can suffer the same fate.

    Is this a common issue?

What do you suggest in terms of a fix?

I would be hard pressed to think a couple hosel rockets were the result of the club.

If you aren't hitting your new clubs as well as your old ones, could it be a difference in the shafts between the two? Maybe something slightly different is causing your shots to be off just enough to leave a slightly longer putt, maybe to miss one extra green here or there. For what amounts to 1 stroke over a year, if you had to look for something wrong with the club, I would look at the shaft first.

To be honest though, and no offense intended here, I would probably look at myself first. One shot over a year doesn't sound like a club problem and I wouldn't worry about 1 shot, but that's just me.
