    I am a senior player (67 yrs.) with a 5.5 index. Drives are normally around 230-245, 6-iron about 150.

I will be ordering a new 910 D2 (9.5 deg) in the very near future and although I know custom fitting is the best option, I probably will not be able to that.

My current driver is a 905R (9.5 deg) with an Aldila NV65R shaft.  My swing speed is 88-93 with a smooth tempo.  My best shots have plenty of height but with little roll out.  Shots that are not straight usually have a draw.

For the new driver, I am considering ordering it with a UST Proforce V2 shaft (57g.) in R flex and having it tipped 1 inch.  I am afraid the 66g shaft with the 3.0 torque may feel a little boardy.  I thought tipping the 57g shaft would get the flight pattern closer to the 66g and the folks at UST agree.

I considered the Project X shaft but I think a 5.5 shaft would not work for me and the 5.0 is not available.

I have hit a couple of 910 D2's with the Kai'li shaft (65g, R flex) and I don't feel that shaft is for me as I was not hitting consistent shots at all.  Most big misses were to the left and I absolutely could not fade the ball with the head set at A1.

I would appreciate your thoughts on using the Proforce shaft in this driver.

    Thanks.

    Hewitt,

The V2 is a very stiff playing shaft and to tip it 1" you might stiffen it too much. Are you interested in it do gain more roll? If so, think about the Diamana White Board reg flex. The Titleist version as more torque than the market version. It has a firmer tip than the Kaili but will have more feel than the V2.

Another option is the Fuji Speeder Motore 6.1 or 6.2.

    Good luck with your search.

    Kevin,

I am new to the site, so I hope it is alright just to dive in and ask a question here. My best driving days were with a Titleist driver. I am looking into purchasing the 910 D2, but am uncertain as to which shaft to select. tMy swing speed has been measured by a fitter at 98-100 MPH. I play to a 6 handicap. Worst part of my game is driving. I tend to hit down on the ball,  fade the ball and also hit the ball too low. I would like to gain more carry distance. I feel like I am between an Ilima in stiff or Kai'li. I tried the in store fitting at a local big box store and unfortunately just didn't get along with the fitter. Yes, I will try another store/fitter. Any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.

    Marc,

As a fellow Titleist Regional Test Center Fitter like Kevin, I will give you my 2 cents here if that is okay. Obviously working on illiminating some of the downward attack angle would be be a good thing, but with that said there are some things you can do with the new 910 driver that will help you.

I would suggest a little more loft to increase your launch angle and maybe the D3 head to help with spin. I don't think you will need to go from let's say 9.5 to 10.5, but rather change the setting on your current loft so that you can close the face a smidge (reduce fade) in turn adding a little loft. For example; take it from A1 (Std loft,1/2 deg open, and Std lie for a RH golfer) to C3 (+3/4 deg, 1/2 deg closed, and 3/4 deg upright). I am making the assumption you need the club a little upright if you are steep and fading.

As far as the shaft goes, contrary to popular belief a shaft won't really affect launch angle very much at all, if any. I would suggest something a little more stable than the Ilima to keep the spin rate down. I like your idea of the stock Kaili 65 S, but if you want to go custom you might try the Fujikura F3 60 S or the Graphite Design Tour AD DI-6 S. If these still don't quite reduce the spin, the RIP 60 S will do the trick.

I hope this all makes sense and helps you in your decision. This is just my opinion based on the info you posted, it would still be best to try another qualified fitter if you can. Fitters are like instructors, find one you can communicate with and you trust and there is no doubt it will help your game

    Good Luck,

    Craig,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, your course of action makes sense; 910 D3, 9.5 driver, close the face thus adding loft, change the setting to C-3 to add loft and increase the lie angle. It sounds like a logical idea to me. I will let you know how it works out.

    Kevin,

Thanks very much for your reply.  The reason I was considering tipping the V2 was that I understand the 57g. shaft has a torque rating of 3.7 so the thinking was that by tipping the 57g. shaft, it would feel better than the 66g. shaft which has a torque of 3.0.

As to your suggestion about the Diamana shaft, did you by chance mean to say Blue Board instead of White Board.  I don't think an R flex White Board is available from Titleist.  The Blue Board shaft is one that I have been considering.  Since cost of an upgraded shaft is a major consideration, that is one reason I was considering the V2 or maybe another Aldila NV-65R.  Do you know if the cost of the Blue Board upgrade is reasonable?

I have two 905R's (9.5 & 10.5 deg.) with the Aldila NV-65R and I have to say both drivers have always felt very good to me.  I have never once felt that the shafts were responsible for a bad drive.  My only problem has been that I have felt I don't get enough roll out of the ball which is pretty strange considering the specs on this shaft.  Getting the ball up with this shaft is not a problem, even with the 9.5 deg. driver which is the one I currently use.  About three years ago, launch monitor results showed a launch angle of 13.1, head speed of 94 and spin of 3093 rpm with a PRO V1.  How do you think the NV-65R shaft in the 910 D2 head would compare to the same shaft in the 905R?  That would give me a better idea of what to expect in the 910 D2.  Bear in mind though that head speed may have dropped a little in the last three years.

I have really not looked at the two speeder shafts but after looking at the specs, I can see where I should consider them.  I see where one of them is listed as an exotic upcharge.  Again, I don't know what the upgrade charges woud be.

I noticed that the NV-65, Proforce V2 57g. and the Speeder 6.1 all fall in about the same place in the shaft matrix.  Unfortunately all of them are of course listed with an S flex.  I don't see the Blue Board listed in the Matrix.

Basically, I am tired of having other players hit their drives with carry distances of 10-20 yards less than mine but having a final distance yardage of 5-15 yards more than mine.  That tells me that I don't have the right combination of club & shaft.  I use a PRO V1 almost exclusively.

Thanks again as it is difficult for us guys with swing speeds of around 90 mph to get information.  Most of the information available seems to be for folks with 100+ mph swing speeds which is understandable, especially in this forum.
