New driver replaces R7 limited with OZIK shaft. I was very consistent with last driver (straight as an arrow 9/10 times); have a smooth tempo and swing. Told fitter that I needed more distance, he recommended the ilma 61 due to lightweight for faster speed to achieve more distance; torn between the one he recommended and the diamana Kaili 65, which felt a little heavier and tactile. Any thoughts on the fitter's logic? oh both shafts are regular, driver swing speed is 98-100mph. Golf shop gave me the option to interchange shafts as needed until I found the right one, which is NICE. Any suggestions of other shafts I should try in the titleist line up for the purpose of distance? Planning to hit the range and play with the settings of the D2 as well to see if that improves distance. thanks, this website is awesome BTW...

with your swing speed i would use a stiff shaft. i prefer the RIP a stiffer shaft should be more accurate also

    Carlos,

Very difficult to answer your question in a web forum. Shaft fitting is an art/science combination. If your fitter used a launch monitor then he should be able to really get you setup with the correct loft/shaft/SureFit setting. It is very scientific. If it was done by a skilled, Titleist certified fitter without a launch monitor then he should be able to get you hitting a consistant launch angle with a predictable ball flight.

Without seeing your swing, it is hard to make valid selections. All I can offer is a bit of advice. If you have a slow/smooth swing you will beneifit from a lighter softer shaft. The shaft will work for you and help with launch and distance. If you have a faster tempo swing a slightly stiffer shaft will help you with consistancy.

Another point to remember that "stiff" and "regular" as relative terms. One manufacturers' regular may be a borderline stiff from a second manufacturer.

Trust your fitter, they are (or should be) trained professionals.

  4. I agree with Carlos. The fitters recommendation with the lighter Diamana shaft is S flex is a great combination. our experianceis that the RIP is not at the same standard than the Diamana shafts for Titleist. The R flex in lighter shaft is very flexible and you could loose consistancy. the unfortunate thing is that the only real gain of distance come from more solid contact. also make sure the swingweight feel is right. sometimes the club becomes to light and you loos feel that leeds to inconsistant contact. we have seen a number of slower swingers and lady golfers gain distance and consistany with lighter shafts, slightly firmer for controll and a small increase in swingweight that improved their feel of the clubface. Get Fitter, dont change to many things at one time. select the head that you like, then find two shafts that you like in different weight levels. use lead tape to add one or two strips at a time to try different swingweight options. a good fitter can setup your final setting. We have a 64 yr old gent with SS or 85 to 90, we fitted him with a 10.5 D2 with a 60 gram Diamana shaft with swingweight D6 his SS increase to between 92 and 97 the spinrate increased so he gets more hight and more carry and gainded between 12 to 15 on carry alone. the higher Swing weight helped him to feel the head and he can now with confidance when needed "hit" the ball when he needs a bid extra.
