d2 vs d3

  1. I've had the 910 d2 driver now since last summer. I hit it really far and I just put a new shaft in (RIP 70 g xstiff). I used to have the stock diamana shaft in it. The one problem I've had with the driver is a ball flight that seems a little too high; especially into the wind. The new shaft has helped some but the ball flight is still fairly high unless I deliberately try to keep it down. I want to know your thoughts about this and whether or not the d3 really produces a lower launch than the d2. I have read that it should be a little lower but I want to know from people who hit the driver. If it does go lower I, I could probably get a d3 head and put it in my current shaft. Thanks for your thoughts.

    Ian,

I had the same issue. I originally had a d2 with a stock diamana in it. The ball flight was way to high and the spin coming off the driver was causing me a huge loss of distance. I went to my club pro and went through an intensive fitting and ended up going with a d3 head with a Graphite Design DI-6. It was amazing the difference, my ball flight was much more penetrating, and the distance added was probably 15-20 yds. I would encourage you to go see a Titleist fitter and let them go through the fitting process with you!

Hi Ian: The D3 produces about 1 degree lower launch with 200rpms less spin. It will certainly lower flight. The bottom row of the SureFit chart will lower launch as well.
