Played my first round yesterday with my new AP1's and they are 1/2 to 1 club longer for sure. Will take a few rounds to adjust but they are sweet.

Also, when you play a bump and run from around the green, you either have to club down or throttle back because the ball really pops off the clubface.

    Frank,

Thanks for the posts.  I still have a bunch of questions though...

Did you go with the standard XP90 shaft or a custom option?  In either case, what flex shaft are you using?  What is your ball flight like?

I think I need to find a course/golf shop where I can demo them outside, which will help to answer all my questions.

That's interesting that they play so 'hot.'  Would you care to elaborate on your experience with the wedges, proper gapping, and your preferences?

They are going to play a litter hotter because of the loft and they are not as soft as the AP2s which are forged.  Listening to see if they might interest me.  Interested in their accuracy.  What shaft do you have in them.

Okay. As far as the shafts, they are Kuro Kage 65 Regular flex, the same shafts that I had in the AP1 714's and are the same length. Accuracy is the same. Ball flight is slightly higher. What I'm saying is the way the ball comes off the face is different. I'm sure that the thinner face has a lot to do with it. I understand that the 716's are 1* stronger than the 714's. As far as bump and run, I use the 8 to the PW depending on the distance to the hole. I like to get it on the green and get it rolling. Old school, I guess. I notice most of the younger guys like to play everything around the green with a SW. Not that I never do but I'm a little more selective with the SW. What I'm saying is same club, same shot, the 716 is going past the target. Once again, I'm sure the thinner face and the stronger loft is the reason. By the way, during the fitting I tried the AP2'S with the same shaft and length. Big difference in distance and ball flight.

Just ordered my new 716 AP1s with Nippon 950 reg shaft. The numbers did not vary much with a variety of shafts. Not even the graphite which kind of surprised me. The Nippons' felt the best and offered the most carry by a few yards over my 714s. Simulator height was up and overall distance was more by 1/2 club plus. I believe they will perform even a little better on the course. Hoping to get them to Colorado here before winter set to far in. Go Titleist! Cheers DT

Definately longer than my old irons. I got them with the AMT s300s. Solid 10 yds longer than my old forged irons. The long irons are obviosly offset, but they're not distracting. The highter irons look really good, just bigger than my old irons. This will fill my bag for 2016 for sure. I think it's another great product from Titleist.
