Hi Guys I recently bought the 714 AP1 irons from 5 to W and I already had the 913H 24 and 913H 19, but I want to replace the hybrids with a 4 Iron and a new 816H My question is, do you recommend to just add the AP1 4 iron or do you think I should get a 714 MB? or 712U? (716 T-MB is too expensive for me) I live in Mexico, so there is no chance to test any of these clubs down here =( Please help! Thank you!

Hey Modesto, The 714 MB long irons will be significantly different to your AP1's, also the 712u would be a different style of club also. I would get the AP1 4 iron as you would not have to adjust much to get used to it. Some will say a bladed iron is more difficult to hit, which may be true but I think the biggest thing to think about is your own preference. The typical set up would have MB short irons and cavity backed long irons so it would be a unconventional set up, but its all down to what you want out of a 4 iron. What kind of shots are you looking to hit with a 4 iron?

Hi Sam, thank you for your response I want a penetrating low flight shot of around 210~220 yards I normally hit around 200 yds with my 5 iron, 210~220 with the 24H and around 230 with the 19H , but all of these clubs give me really high flight shots and I don't want that for my 4 iron, besides I am better hitting Irons than Hybrids, that's why I want to replace the 24H with a 4 Iron, but with a lower flight. Thanks again!

    Hi Modesto,

That's an interesting question, to me (and I'm not trying to sound mean), but it seems to be going backwards. You mentioned that you are using 714 AP1s in the 5-PW and you want to replace your 4-hybrid with a 4-MB? You are essentially going from "game improvement" irons in the 5-PW and then a "players" iron for a long iron (4-iron), while most people do the opposite. Most that have a combo type set go with a more "players" type iron in the shorter to mid-irons and then a more forgiving or game improvement in their longer irons.

For example, Zach Johnson. He uses AP2 from at least 5-9 (maybe even PW, but he could be using a Vokey PW), but then he uses an AP1 4-iron and then a 3 or 2-hybrid.

Have you tried to hit a 4-iron MB? It's probably one of the hardest clubs to hit, even though TItleist does an amazing job trying to make it as forgiving as they can, it's not designed for the masses. I would suggest to go and try one out, but also a 712U  and compare.

The 712Us are essentially a driving iron, so they won't balloon as much as a hybrid. Also, they type of shaft you get will also help you with a lower ball flight.  What shafts are you playing in your irons?

Please let me (us) know what you think after you tried them out or what you get in your set.

Hi Samuel, thank you so much for your comments, I guess I should try these clubs before rushing into buy one. I might travel to USA at the end of December, so I will look for a Pro shop where I can try them out. Thanks again!
