Spin Rate

  1. I picked up my new 716 ap2's today and took a few swings on the launch monitor at the shop. I've played project x shafts for years and love them. I did switch from the 5.5 Flighted to the new 6.0 lz shafts this time though... I was shocked to see my spin rate drop over 1500rpm. My old clubs were consistently 7000+. With the new ones I'm around 5500.

The shafts feel great with a beautiful baby draw ball flight, but the spin rate worries me. Is the lower spin rate just because it's a stiffer shaft?

    Should I be concerned?

  2. These rates are with a 7 iron... FYI

Could be because they are stiffer but also relates to the kick point on the shaft. Which iron were you hitting? 5500 using a 6 iron is one thing...5500 using a 9 iron would be concerning.

I will leave it to others with more expertise...but 5500 for a 7 iron seems low to me.

On tour, the average spin rate for a 6 iron is about 6231 rpm so it's a little lower than average. For a 80 mph swing, the spin rate is about 5950 so it depends on multiple factors.

High launch + low spin is good!
