    Hi guys,

I actually in a dilemma right now. I cant decide which club to remove from my bag as i intend to get a 910F.

    i'm currently using driver, 2hyb(19,21), 4-9iron, wedges(47,52,56,60) and putter = 14 clubs.

I cant decide whether to get rid of 1 hyb or get rid of one wedge.

i'm leaning more towards getting rid of a wedge(52). Its because i seldom use it. But that will leave a huge yardage gap between my PW and SW.

    Please help...

    Carman,

What loft are you looking at for the 910F?  Also, how far are you hitting your two hybrids?  Two degrees of loft isn't a lot of difference.  You have a lot of options, you could get a new 910H 21 degree and set it up with -.75 of loft or get a 19 degree and add .75 or 1.5 degrees of loft to split the difference between your two hybrids.  Also, could take a look at going with a 47, 54, and 58 degree wedges to split the difference as well.  I guess the good thing is you have plenty of options, good luck and let us know what you decide.

  5. Hi Carman-

Personally, I think you should take a look at your game and where you play.  You need to decide if you are more comfortable handling a larger gap at the top end or lower end of your bag.  Typically, you like to see 4-6 degrees gap between wedges while most players are comfortable having a 20-30 yard gap in their long game.

You should consider what will help you score lower.  If you struggle with your long game but have good distance control and creativity in your wedges you might consider losing the 52.  But if you cannot make up the gap from 47 to 56 by controlling your 47 then you should probably keep the 52 because that club is going to help you score lower.

If you intend on getting the 910F 15 degree you might consider losing the 21 and playing a knock down shot with your 19 to make up the difference.

But again, you should look at your game and what type of courses you typically play and remove the club where you are most comfortable handling the yardage gap.

Nick age you some great advice. I deffinetly recoment analizing your game and your local conditions. And how much with a Fairway wood really gain you at this point. you figure there is what 4 maybe 5 par five on your course and how many  do you really think your going to reach in two or be inside of 50yrd bye adding this wood. If your typicaly reaching your par 5s in 3 or atleast you have a decent chance of reaching in three then i would keep what you got. fair way woods are great but if cant hit one dont get one hahahah. or think about a 13 degree and drop the driver. im a strong hitter so i hit my 3 as far as most people hit driver so i could drop a driver if need be. and i do in 4 club turny's

    Hey John,

Good point there... "Cant hit one dun get one"

For par 5s, i tend to break down to 2 iron shots rather than trying to get 2 on with the longer clubs which i'm not very confident with.

I'll probably stick with what i have right now and if i do need a wood in future then i'll consider again.

Im definitely gonna get the 910H... feels really good! Instead of 19&21, i'll probably get a 17&21 combo. how that sounds?

BUt thanks alot guys... im really grateful!

Alot of great advice here.  I would personally drop one of the hybrids to pick up the fairway wood.  I'm a long hitter and use my 3 wood  to get to certain positions to score.   I would not want a gap in my wedge game.  The long iron/wood game can be worked on enough to get into position.

    Good luck on your search.

Option 1:  Depending on your accuracy with the longer clubs, I would dump the 19* and replace the 4-iron with a 24* hybrid.  At the level the average intermediate golfer, I don't think we really need 4+ options to miss the green from 175+.  Especially since most say that something like 40%+ of the shots on the course are from 100 yards and in.  Unless you're a single digit, I would keep the scoring clubs you feel comfortable with and forget amount trying to stick it to 10 feet from 200 yards out.  I carry 909 F2 15.5* & 18.5* and 909 H 21* & 24*, AP2 6-GW and Vokey 54 & 58.  Truth is I could pull the 15.5*.  I'm very confident with my 909 D2 9.5* and I tend to hit about 60% of the fairways, so I rarely hit a 3-wood off the tee.  Or, if you like your 19*, you could probably pull the 21* and just grip down on the 19* to get the same distance you're getting from the 21*.  There's only 2* difference in the loft and maybe a little difference in shaft length. Do you CONSISTENTLY have enough difference in distance between your hybrids that you would really miss the 21* if you pulled it?

Option 2:  Since you carry a 4i, you're probably a better player and consistenly hit your long irons within 10 yards of the same distance every time.  If so, I would say pull the 52* and get Vokey 54* & 58*.  I find those lofts easier to hit (could be in my head), and I end up using the 58* out of the sand almost exclusively, anyway.  The 54* and 58* combo means less gap between the PW and the first SW.  My driver SW is 102-106, but I'm not as efficient in ball striking with my irons, so the GW is a perfect 100-105 club for me.  I hit the 58* about 75 yards and the 54* about 90.

A little off topic, but I have always wondered if it is a disadvantage to being a long hitter with short irons.  I mean, I would love to brag that I hit a SW 130 yards, but it IS nice to have clubs that I can take a full swing with that goes 100, 90 and 75.  I suppose, if I could practice enough to get my ball striking to the point that I hit my wedges that far, I'd also have time to develop feel for partial wedge shots to also hit them consistent distances inside 100 yards.  Just my $0.02.

Thanks guys for all the useful inputs... i am trying to figure my game now. i was too bad to start with hence never notice the desired clubs i want.

Why i want to get a 910F is because i typically hit my driver at around 250-270yds. Hence, i need something for those tighter fairways(distance. not width) 230-240 range to clear certain washes etc.

    I hit my 19H ~210-220. 21H ~200. my 4i is approx 190 or less.

Had a game today, and i realized that i tend to setup my short game to be inside 100yds where i'm comfortable with my 56 or 60. if i cant, based on the math, i will try to setup it up for a PW which i hit around 130yds.

Or do you guys think i should just get a 910F and keep the rest? And i'll remove one based off which course i'm playing...

  11. I would pull out the 21 hybrid.  Keep the 19, and if you need something between your 4 iron and the 19 hybrid, just hit the 19 hybrid and choke up on it an inch and a half.  Same swing, same club, different distance.  Keep all your wedges - those are your scoring clubs.  I wouldnt dare take out my 52 wedge... and I have a similar makeup as you do.

You've got some great advice here!  I would say keep your wedges, and widen the gap at the long end of the bag.  I would compare the hybrids versus the new fairway and keep in mind where you play, and the shots you need, matter most.  Pros travel with extra clubs and take what they need to the first tee.

    Carman,

I have the exact configuration in my bag as you do with one exception. I took out the 52 and the 56 and put in the 54 degree. So that gives me the driver, 3w, 19 & 21 deg. hybrid, 4-pw, 54 and 60 deg. wedges. This works very well for me. Give it some thought!!!

That is exactly what i wanted. Or maybe a 58deg instead of a 60deg wedge. I cant seem to part with my hybrids. im so much more confident hitting it off the fairway compared to a wood. Hence, if i do get a wood, it probably gonna be a 910Fd.
