Does anyone have a 19 degree hybrid and a 3wood? Does anyone think it's nessesary to have a 3wood? I just got fit for the 19 degree hybrid and a 3wood. I hit the hybrid 220-230 yards on the simulator and the 3 wood 240-250 yards. My driver average is 280-290 yards.

    Any thought's?

    Hi Danny,

I have seen some guys dropping their three wood.  I don't think I would do it just because I use my three wood off the tee alot.  I guess you have to decide what is your money club off the tee then work some yardage gaps.  I have a 3 wood and a 19 degree hybrid.  I like my current setup and can't see changing it.  The hybrid is my 210-220 club though and I don't carry a three iron.  Good luck deciding!!!

My Titleist 3 woods are 13.5 and 15.5.  I switch them up depending on the course.  I haven't changed to hybrids yet because I like playing my long irons.   You have to configure your own set up to suit your game.  Experiment with different shots and make the decision on what is best.

My Bag veries. i like to carry a Traditional bag but depending on the course i may change it up. I have hybrids and may carry a few of them if i feel the course conditions call for them. I can attack a pin placement better with a hybrid but if its windy or a really long par 5 i'll carry woods. My guess is if you have the money are are willing to spend it get them both. If you play a course with a 600 yard par five you'll be glad you have that 3 wood but if you play a 500 yard par five you might like the hybrid. its a personal choice. Brother i own 20 game day clubs but obviously i'll only carry 14. and if your just playing a pick up round for practice you can carry as many clubs as you want. you just cant post a handicap score or compete with more than 14 clubs unless there is something else i dont know about.

If those are carry numbers, those gaps sound good to me on paper!

Thanks guys for your thought's. It helped me think about the courses I play here on Long Island NY. A lot of 400 yard dog legs. And I play the infamous Bethpage Red & Black courses mostly. Which have a lot of hills and A LOT of wind. A 3 wood & 19 degree hybrid in my bag should be perfect!

I agree with you those gaps sound pretty good to me..... I personally carry a 3 wood and a 20 degree hybrid and that keeps my gaps really consistent.

    Thanks,

My thoughts exactally.  It's all about finding the right gaps IMO.  Whatever fills the gaps is what you should use.  My 4 iron and my 24* hybrid are about the same loft, but I carry the hybrid just as far as the 3 iron with better spin + I can use it more comfortably from the rough.  So I pulled the 3 iron because it was like having two of the same club in the bag.  I added a 60* wedge and am loving life.  If only the snow would melt....

I carry a 15 degree 3 wood and 19 degree hybrid and my yardage gaps are pretty much identical to yours.  The yardage gaps are pretty good being 15-20 yards different and the 3 wood also gives you the versatility to hit it of the tee on tighter/shorter par 4's and also playing it in the fairway on par 5's.  I would stick to this 3 wood/19 degree hybrid set-up as it looks pretty good.

Thanks again. Does anyone have a 4 iron with their 19 degree hybrid & 3 wood?

I carry a 15* 3w, 19* hybrid and a AP2 4i bent a little strong.  My 3w is essentially a driving club.  I use it on some shorter and/or tight par 4's. I rarely use it for approach shots but it's a valuable option off the tee for my game.  I use the hybrid for a variety of shots.  Very versatile, easy to control club.  I dropped my 3i last year in favor of an extra wedge and bent my 4i a little stronger.  I just didn't need my 3i very often and found I could effectively cover those shots with my my hybrid or 4i.  I found my scoring was better with more wedge options vs more long game options.  I can't think of any occassion where I missed having the 3i but I'm happy to have all of my wedges options every single round.

I have a 4i in w/ my 19 and 3 wood. I just like to play a low draw or a high fade with my 19 if I need to vary distances. and the high fade works really well for par 3's that are around 215. and I hit my 4i around 205-215 so I'm pretty happy with the set up, especially when I can push the 19 to go around 235. The 3 wood is mostly used on par 5's or short par 4's to set up full wedge shots.

I replaced my 3 wood with a 15 degree hybrid. I find the hybrid easier to hit, but I did lose a few yards in the trade.

I've yet to find a hybrid that I don't hit straight up in the air. I carry a 15.5* 3wood and my old 962 DCI deuce. That 2-irn is my go-to club off the tee.

Sounds good! what time should we set our first lesson. My club or yours. We have 3 hitting bays and a simulator. Next to that we have a 60' chipping and putting area. I could use a little help in all those areas. LOL
