I take really good care of my clubs. I always wipe them dry. This is on several of my irons on the back cavity. See the picture below. It is not rust, it looks more like an adhesive or something. Let me know what you think. I do not know how to remove it and I want to be careful. Thanks for any feedback!

Having seen this in person, I'm not sure what it is either!  Hopefully we'll get some answers.

I also have it on my 4 iron.  Wiped most of it off with some orange wipes.

Would like to know what is going on

Yea it is on several of my irons. It looks transparent like an epoxy or something leaking out of the back of the cavity badge. Anyone else have an experience with this?

We have seen very isolated instances of staining or slight oxidation around the cavity plate of the AP irons.  This is typically caused by submerging the head in water.  The cavity plate is designed to be water tight, however if the club is completely submerged or left in water for a length of time, there is a possibility of water accumulating behind the cavity plate.  In some instances this water will produce a stain or slight oxidation around the plate.  We recommend that you do not submerge your clubs in water when cleaning.  As always, if you are experiencing a problem, please contact us at 1-888-TITLEIST.

Thanks for the response from Titleist. They are a top notch company. This is why I am apart of the Titleist family.

Just as a side note. I use a towel to clean them. This is good advice though for others reading, these types of clubs are not meant to be soaked at all. Make sure to take extremely good care of your equipment. I will last you a long time.

Thanks also to RC for chiming in and also for taking a look at these in person. Guys if you want to get top notch treatment from the best in the business, go see RC at mygolfperfomance.com . He has a great partnership with Titleist and you will receive tour level treatment.

    Hi Ryan,

We can certainly inspect your clubs in the Warranty department although if the chrome has worn off the face (due to hitting balls), it may rust as it is carbon steel underneath.  You may notice a dime sized spot on some pro's irons as they wear  the chrome from all their practice.  If it is something other than that, please take your clubs into your local pro shop and have them call our Warranty department and they can set up an inspection for you.

Woah I just picked up some AP2's and I definitely don't want that happening.  I generally "dip" my clubs in water when cleaning them after every round, but I will just stick to the wet towel technique.

Did you find anything to clean that gunk off?

Maybe try Goo Gone or Acetone. Acetone is a stripping agent and removes the paint from the irons so maybe it could help with that stuff (whatever it is). Careful with the Acetone if you choose too. Just soak a cotton square and rub it out. (no pun intended). Unfortunate considering I might consider buying a set soon

    Hi Chris,

I'm not sure if I'm seeing your picture correctly, is the black lettering in the "G" of "FORGED" on the back of this club gone from the back of the club head?  A couple of my irons have had this happen.  I know this has nothing to do with playability, just curious if others were seeing this as well.

    Thanks.

    Dave

I am having the same problem with paint missing from 3 of my irons.  I love the 712 Ap2's however it also bugs me that some of the letters are missing paint.  Its not a huge a deal.

Same with my AP2 712's....on the pitching wedge and the 8 iron. Like you said not that big a deal, but definitely wonder why it happened so quick.
