So, I'm changing up my bag. I had a 3Wood and 4hybird last season TM qi10. I went for a Titleist fitting and wow, I learned a lot, and found out my irons were even wrong for me, Thanks PXG for that ;-( So now I'm crushing the 5wood, how I wanted to hit my 3wood, definitely a lot easier to crush. Now on my own I decided to complete my package with a 7wood to replace the 4Hybrid. When I hit the 7wood its just as easy as the 5wood. The Titleist GT 2 is just amazing!! Does anyone run this kind of set up? Do I really need a Hybrid and am I going to miss it?

I use driver and two fairways but also use a high lofter hybrid instead of a 5 iron. Lots of people playing multiple fairways and leaving out the hybrid but you need to do what works best for you, not what anyone else does. I also like to have different clubs that can be mixed and matched depending on where I am going to play. Some wedges and some other combinations change for courses like my Bandon trips versus playing soft, elevated parkland style courses.

If the 7W completes the distance gap you used the hybrid for, then the answer is 80% you can keep it. Are there turf conditions (…tall rescue) that you used your hybrid for that the 7W isn’t as easy? Or would you use a 5 iron anyway? If the club is the right tool for the job, it is the right club.

From experience, the five iron vs hybrid is a trial and error individual thing. I have a 11.25* TSiD, 15* TSIF, 18* TSR1F, 20* TSR1H, 5-48W. irons. I ordered the TSR1 23*, played with it for a while and decided that I need more flexibility and ordered the 5 iron. Seems the five iron works best for me. At 78, it keeps me in better shape.

For me my next setup should be a 5 wood, and hybrid 4 or 7 wood.
    I will decide after fitting.
I do not want to have 2 fairway woods that are traveling almost same distance.

My bag between 2012-2015 had been 910H 19 and Callie Steelhead 9 wood. From 2015-2017, carried 910F 21 fairway. I had a 910H 27H available between 2012-2022 (various shaft iterations, starting with Bassara up until 2019 and Kaili until 2021, Ilima 70 until 2022). Mainstay for 27H since 2018 has been an 816H1, starting with Rogue 85 and changing to Diamana 70 in 2020; been using Tensei 70S since Jan 2024. Have tried TS2 and TSR1 27 and 26 hybrids but neither hit as well as the 816H1 27.

I've been carrying the TSR1 9 wood with Diamana 72 x5ct S since March (best setup is this shaft at 40.5" and +2 headweight); it is a "rescue fairway".

My current 5 wood is a GT2 18 fairway with Diamana 70R at 42" (which I've had for 3 months now); carried TSR1 18 fairway with Diamana x5ct and shaft length of 41.5". The GT2 is a lot easier to hit off the fairway vs TSR1.

If I want to play a "Sunday bag", will play my 910F 21 fairway by itself. It and the 816H1 27H are a ""one-two punch" and I've had some of my best scores with this combo.

I wenr with the 5 and 7 wood. I had a 16.5 3 wood (GT2) and decided I could remove that club and replace it with and 18. Titleist 5 wood. That is now 17, 20 and 23 for the 5 Iton. I always seem to hook a hybird.
  8. I am experimenting with this as well. I currently have a 7w and 4h and 5h even though the 7w and 4h are about the same loft. Sometimes I hit the 7w better than the 4h and sometimes it's the reverse, but usually the 7w is my preferred option. I also tend to hook my hybrids at times and don't seem to have that problem with the woods. But I am going to add a 5w and probably take out the 4h.

It really depends on your goals and what you want to see from the ballflight out of that slot in your bag. A 7w will most likely launch higher and land softer, while a 4h will most likely fly a little lower and give you more runout.

Be sure that whatever you decide upon that your distance gaps between the various clubs is correct.

My ever-trusty 7 wood is shown in the attached image. Ilima R, C3 Surefit. I play it and the 9 wood on one course. The thumbnail is my full fairway setup (all A3 Surefit). 13.5 has Diamana 70R 42.5” and +2 head weight. 18 same shaft 41.75 length and +2 head weight. 23 fairway has Diamana 72S 40.5” +2 head weight.
