Today I witnessed one of the most special shots of my 40 year golfing career. And it wasn’t even my shot!!
I was marking the card of my 8 year old son Oliver, who was submitting his 3rd and final card for his handicap. We were playing the Cameron Course at Nairn. Upon reaching the 9th hole my son said that he didn’t think he was going to beat his best 9 hole score. I said that if he made a par he wouldn’t be too far away. He replied, saying he might make a birdie. He decided that a 3 wood was the club and hit his shot beautifully. It soared between two mounds in front of the green, running up and hitting the flag head on, before dropping.
We both looked at each other in sheer joy. I hugged him and he couldn’t stop smiling. As we walked towards the green a member was waving and applauding behind the clubhouse window. He came outside and shouted over his congratulations to my so .
It’s a day and shot that will live in my heart forever.
