Over this past weekend, I had one of those are occasions when every aspect of my game was working -- no really bad shots. I ended up shooting 74. Back before I had kids, I would usually shoot within a few shots either side of 80 with regularity. Then I stopped playing often for many years. Now, I'm back playing a bit more, and my handicap is coming down again.

My question is how can I add this score given that the course I played on is still being updated, and the USGA suggests it not be rated until the modifications are complete. Should I set the rating to course par and guess low for the slope? Should I not bother to post (I'd rather not)? This course is far easier than my home course. If anything, my home course is such that most of the locals agree that it's good for at lead 3 extra strokes on your handicap (long story that I've posted about before). Regardless, I want to figure the best way to enter my score to keep my handicap up to date and falling towards my goal this year.

    Thoughts?

As the handicap system is a measure of your "potential" to score not your actual scores I would enter the score using the existing slope and rating for the course. A single round will note affect your index even if the rating and slope are not perfect for the course. It all will average out.

I applaud your honesty in wanting to post all of your scores in the most accurate way possible. I know some players (nobody here!) that would just forget the good score so as not to lower thier handicap and hurt them in future play.
