  1. I would like to ask a Titleist Staff member if the comment of "all" Titleist forged conform to the condition of play status. It appears on your website that the 660's thru the 690's conform, but no mention of the 681's. I have also been on the USGA website and that indicates "ATR" for additional testing required, but would like a general sense from Titleist. Please advise. Thanks. "Patriot"

The 681 groove is the standard V groove that is conforming.

  3. Thanks Joe, As a PGA guy, that does help.....my concerns are mostly for local qualifying for our state am....do you know of anyone who specifically uses the 681's and competes in USGA events at any level?

    Curt-

You may also want to check with your state golf association to determine if the new groove condition of competition will be in effect for your local state am qualifying.  Our understanding is that the only events that currently invoke this condition of competition are high-level professional events such as those played on the worldwide professional tours.  The USGA plans to start using the condition of competition for their amateur events in 2014, at which time it is believed many of the state golf associations will follow suit.

Hopefully this helps, be sure to let us know if you have any other questions.

  5. Brice, Thanks very much, and yes my concern is to not be an idiot and get through a local qualifier and then get DQ'd....seems I'm good at the local level to 2014. I did get a great mesage from Cathi explaining basically the same infor from her 9/2010 comments. It's all very clear now. Thanks again. "Patriot"

Just so you know, when titleist says 660's through the 690's, it covers everything inbetween too.

  7. Hey Nate, I appreciate the "keen insight"...however, that is a 3rd party statement that I'm trying to confirm, unless you're a Titleist Staff member, I didn't think I needed to explain that? What I've seen in the "chatter" out there is that yes, they do conform, however, interestingly enough, the USGA suggests "ATR" or additional testing required, and I'm simply curious if any "ATR" has been done by Titleist or anyone else for that matter, and if so, the results? I do appreciate Joe's comments as a PGA guy......thanks again, but really looking for a comment from Titleist proper for confirmation either way.

The 660's through 690's had V grooves, but, please be aware that even though they had V grooves - when we sent sets to be tested, some of them did not pass because they were hand polished across the face.  We used an older manufacturing process and some faces could have an excess of polish that did not allow a smooth enough groove at the edge to meet the USGA standards.  If the clubs are not listed or say ATR, that means that we did not have a set to send them for testing or they required more clubs which we may or may not have to send them.  The final say on conformity rests with the USGA.  You can look on their website or call them directly with a question on your particular clubs if they are not listed.  Their website is:   http://www.usga.org/InfoClubsDB/index.asp and put in Acushnet for the manufacturer and Titleist for the product name.

  9. Hey Cathi, Thanks for your response. So I could asume that from the start, the V-groove "design" is compliant overall, however, the finishing process may impact or otherwise inadvertantly modify the V-groove configuration on any given set of clubs, including the 681 model, therein precipitating the ATR classification by the USGA? This does help a great deal and is certainly beyond any level that I would be concerned with, at least at this point, we'll see how the game progresses this summer season. Thanks again. "Patriot"
