I think the best golf "slang" terms are the ones you and your buddies come up with out on the course.  Unfortunately these terms tend to stick around a while!  One of the groups I play in regularly refers to a shank as a "Cronin" in reference to my last name and one day we were all out on the golf course and I had a few... issues.  This unfortunate term was coined on a day I was having some setup issues and managed to shank my 5-iron and 6-iron every time they were in my hand.  It was so bad that day that I was walking up to the ball to take my shot and I was expecting to shank it (now that's a great swing thought if I have ever had one).  The best of the day was when I shanked one OB, dropped a second and did the exact same thing again and it fortunately bounced in front of and over a car driving down an adjacent road!  I think the term was well earned and we all laugh anytime somebody hits a shank and I still get called out.  Gotta love golf and your buddies!

Great topic!  You may not even be aware of some of the simple words you use during a round of golf is considered a slang of sorts or rather improper/incorrect but as long as your having fun that's all that matters!

Pull the "pin" = Flagstick - which no one really calls it anymore

Traps = bunkers - I think we all call it a sand trap

Cup = Hole

All for fun...I was in the left trap where I splashed my ball out, hit the pin, and went in the cup for a double eagle (or is it albatross :) )

I guess some of the slang terms will also vary depending on where you are from. Over here, it's always a bunker!
