As we all know, golf is now a sport full of serious athletes who take their fitness training very seriously.  I've done my best to stay fit and in-shape for most of my life, but I now find that my typical gym and cardio regimen is getting a little hard on the body.  From browsing the web i know there are places around the country (e. g. Titleist Performance Institute..) that focus on training for strength and flexibility that will enhance and extend our golfing days.  The question is, where do you find that locally?  I am in the Houston, TX area and have never used a trainer for any reason other than when I had to rehab two shoulder surgeries years ago.

    Hi Michael,

Go to the following website: www.mytpi.com

There is a search function and you can enter in the parameters (ie: location, TPI Fitness Trainer, TPI Golf Instructors, TPI Medical, etc.)

Being in Houston, I'm sure that there will be plenty of folks near you.

There is also a catalogue of TPI fitness exercises for flexibility, core strength, etc. I've been on the TPI program for a year now and I think its absolutely terrific. Of course, as with all human interactions & relationships, take some time chatting to potential fitness trainers to make sure that you feel comfortable, etc. as this is potentially a long term "relationship".

All the best Michael and I look forward to hearing about your experiences -- I think that this type of collective sharing helps improve the program for everyone -- fellow TT members, etc.

I tried Yoga and found my flexibility  came back and so did my distance. Might be something for you to look into. Hit um straight, Dave....

    Michael,

Are you familiar with a company called Bluestreak Sports?  They recently started implementing TPI programs.  I signed up shortly after Thanksgiving and has been the best thing I could have ever done.  My mobility/flexibility and strength have all greatly improved.

If you're looking to train specifically for golf, then I highly recommend going with a TPI associated gym/program.

Michale, I was given that Jimmy D golf video as a gift a few years back. Living in  Ohio I used it through the winter in the living room and I was very shocked at how much it helped the game that next spring. Now I try to use it every winter .

I'd expect you could find someone who specializes in working with athletes or even just golfers. However, there are plenty of good workout programs/books that you can purchase or download. If you have iOS and the dedication to do your part, you can even get a customized program from Nick Randall who created the Golf Fit App.

Thanks for all of the good info here guys.  I have looked into the TPI folks in my area and now that my schedule is back to normal I will pick one and get cracking.

Also, I really like that Nick Randall application.  Tons of good programs on there with pics of the exercises as well.  Kudos for that RH!

    Happy New Year!

    Grindelwald,

I do some training on the TRX (check it out on the internet or youtube) which helps me incresing strength on all important body parts, as you can do so many different excersises with it.
