Hey TT members, Yesterday at the Jersey Shore was a cold one. When we went off, it was 28 degrees. It was impossible to hold any greens. You really had to use your imagination. It was bump and run to say the least. It did warm up to a toasty 36 degrees by the last hole. Anyone else enjoy a little winter golf? Merry Christmas to all of the TT family! Play Well, Steve S.

Went through something similar last December. Hit a beautiful approach shot on first hole that was right on the pin but bounced about 40 yards past the hole! The holes that had gotten some sun were holding a little but those in the shade were like dance floors. Had to forecast how the sun was hitting each hole as we proceeded through the round. You're right about bump and run being the way to go!

I play winter golf here in Maryland as long as there is no snow, but playing in temps below 32 is not my cup of tea. However, give me 38*, sunny, with no wind and you will likely find me out there. Played today in 45* temps with very light breeze. Comfy. Shot 79. Hopefully tomorrow too. But, the cold air is moving in for the end of the week. It's supposed to be a high of 27* on Thursday. Doubt I'll go outside, let alone play golf. Not looking good for golf after Wednesday, at least into next week at this point.

I try to play all year round as long as there is no snow, and the wind is at a minimum. I wont play on temporary Greens. temporary Tees are bad enough.

I alway try to play these rounds more similar to a links course. I might have to land the ball short and let it bounce or run onto the green. It also forces you to pay attention to your misses. knowing that your beautiful approach to the green might bounce 20 yards over, maybe short is better... sometimes frustrating, but it's still a round of golf before months of snow cover and only a driving range to get me thru a long winter.

Hey Steve L, At least it is a round of golf. I feel the same way. It makes me hit shots that I wouldn't during the warm months. As long as the snow and ice stay away, I can always layer up and play. Thanks for the post,
    Play Well,
    Steve S.

Hi. It has been unusually mild and dry in the UK recently which is a nice change. However we had a cold snap a few weeks ago and as mentioned, you had to judge if the green had sufficiently thawed. I had shots either hold and check nicely or bounce 30 feeet in the air!
Having said that it was nice to play on the greens rather than temporary greens which we often have here. Not sure if that is something you have in the US.

Always happy when we can extend the season up here in the northeast. Last year was certainly an exception, my last round of 2015(or you can say the first round of 2016) was the day after New Year's and next round was on Feb 20th out at Bethpage Blue. Not sure that is going to happen this year but playing on frozen greens can be interesting. This winter, I will be playing in an indoor golf league, first time for me, tried it in the fall and so far so good, made it to semi-finals of playoffs!

Our superintendent will not let us on the greens when there is frost or when they are frozen.

This is my first winter in Colorado Springs and frozen greens are the norm. The challenge is landing short where the ground can be soft. But landing on the green may cause the ball to bounce hard off the green.
  12. Played here in suburban Philadelphia last Tuesday. Some greens were frozen early in the day, but the interesting experience was hitting out of frozen bunkers. Talk about bounce! We continue playing throughout the year as long as conditions aren't unbearable. The cold doesn't bother us as long as the wind isn't blowing too hard.

I live in Wisconsin and at best we get 7 months to play so if you want a full season, you have to accept cold weather golf at the beginning and end of the season. I will play in the 30's as long as the sun is shining and wind is low. I have full separate gear for 30's, 40's, 50's weather.

Well I'm overseas at the moment and just received a 72 hour pass for the later part of this week - bee lining it over to Dubai and squeeze in 54 holes.
The forecast is a sunny and highs around 82 - don't be haters, just love the game.
  15. It's always great to hit the links in December, NJ is crazy currently 58 and raining never know what your gonna get

It was 20 degrees here in Virginia last Thursday with 25 mph winds. I walk when i play so i stay warmer. With no waiting it only takes a little over two hours to walk 18 holes.

Hi Cathi, Pretty nice to say the least. No palm trees here at the Jersey Shore. What a great photo. I can't even imagine! Thanks for the post. Loved it!

It's definitely one of the more picturesque places to play golf. This was the 14th hole at Mission Hills CC, Dinah Shore course.

That pic reminds me of the trips I took to Palm Springs in the early 90's, what a great place to play winter golf!
