    Good day all,

My shoulder has been in pain since February and my wife finally made me go to the Orthopedic doctor. I was diagnosed with what in layman’s terms called frozen shoulder. It can last up to two years! I am 46 and this is a huge hindrance to my golf game! I was prescribed physical therapy, which should help. Has anybody had this?

    Thanks,

Oh man, hope it gets better soon. Been pretty lucky avoiding the major injuries but have early stage rheumatoid arthritis so the clock is ticking on my golf life. Trying to get as many good courses off my bucket list while I can. You still have a bunch of good golf years ahead of you so hopefully the physical therapy does the trick. Best wishes!

A friend of mine had the same issue early last year and he was also sent to PT. He went to PT a couple times a week for a month or so, but was dedicated to continuing on with the PT exercises even after his appointments stopped. It took him about 6 months total before he was able to swing a club freely. Keep at the PT & the exercises they have you doing and best of luck with your recovery.

I have had a lot of issues in both shoulders due to osteoarthritis. I'm in rehab now from a procedure on 7/3 to repair a torn bicep, torn labrum, bone spur removal, bursectomy and joint decompression. Initially, my range of motion and pain level was similar to what you are experiencing. You happen to be in anarea where there are plenty of good osteo specialists that can accelerate your recovery. It is a long process, but, if you stick to a prescribed exercise program and get the right medications it should limit your pain level. Good luck. I hope your recovery is swift and complete.

My wife was diagnosed with this a few years ago. PT and rehab hopefully will work for you as well as it did for her. She missed about 4 weeks of fall golf but has been great since then...I wish you the best and you'll be out on the course soon. Besides it's really hot out there right now!!

At that age, I developed an impinged shoulder where I couldn't raise one arm higher than 9-10 pm. Physical therapy didn't help much. It didn't help that the 25 y.o. PT didn't think it was reasonable to expect to still be able to shot jump shots with my children. I don't know if frozen shoulder is another term for impinged shoulder.

I had a gift of a massage with a licensed masseuse. Instead of the usual full body, she focused 45 minutes of the hour on that shoulder. At the end I thought about just chewing my arm off to stop the pain. After 2 more days of pain, for the last 24 years I can clap my hands fully over my head. I'm not usually a fan of alternative therapies, but that woman is still a saint to me.

  8. Hi, I had one about 10-11 years ago. My orthopedic guy was great. He said since I had played sports for 40 years he was sure he would want to operated if he took pictures. Instead he gave me a cortisone shot and prescribed PT. I still do the exercises and haven't had an issue since. I have just tried to incorporate those with other stretching exercises, turned 61 on Sunday so need to keep at it to stay loose and injury free.
