    Think about your game.

Do you feel like you hit the golf ball too high? Do your shots into the wind ever balloon and come up short? Do your short irons and full wedges ever spin off the front of greens? How about feel? Does your current model feel harsh or sound "clicky" to you? Would you prefer softer, more responsive feel? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, you owe it to your game to take a look at the new 2022 AVX golf ball.

First introduced in 2018, AVX was created to offer golfers an Alternative to V and X that flies lower than Pro V1 and Pro V1x, spins less and feels softer on all shots. Now in its third generation, AVX continues to provide dedicated golfers with this important performance option, but with some significant improvements in Flight, Feel and Spin. For the past two years, Titleist scientists and engineers have worked closely with AVX players, collecting test data and feedback to inform future development.

From this research, three themes arose, three wish-list items that AVX players consistently asked for in testing:

"I WANT MORE GREENSIDE CONTROL AND SPIN."

    "I WANT MORE DISTANCE."

    "I WANT MORE CONSISTENT FLIGHT."

For Titleist R&D, these challenges represented opportunities, and to make AVX even better, they reimagined every aspect of the golf ball, from core to cover.

NEW COVER FORMULATION FOR MORE SPIN AND GREENSIDE CONTROL

To deliver more spin in the short game, Titleist R&D looked primarily at the cover and intermediate casing, as the interaction between these two layers has the greatest influence on spin when you're playing less than full shots. To achieve more spin, R&D developed a new urethane elastomer cover material. By precision casting this softer urethane formulation over a firmer, high-flex casing layer, designers were able to create an enhanced soft-over-hard material relationship. This results in more friction between the club face and golf ball cover at impact. What you'll experience on the golf course is more zip, more spin on your chips, pitches and partial wedge shots.

The softer cover formulation also contributes greatly to the softer feel you'll experience on these shots.

    TT Member Feedback:

"The biggest difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 AVX is the improvement in green side spin. I hit chips and pitch and run shots with a variety of clubs. With the Gen 2, I could land the pitch on the green collar and, depending on the club, it would release onto the green towards the hole. With the Gen 3, the ball hits and stops, maybe not quite like a Pro V, but pretty close. Therefore, one can be much more aggressive with their pitches and chips."

NEW CORE FORMULATION FOR LOWER SPIN

To maintain low iron spin and help achieve new distance gains, Titleist R&D needed to go to work on the engine of AVX – the core. They reformulated the core material in a way that increased the stiffness of the outermost portions of the core while maintaining a soft, low-compression center.

At the same time, they revisited the material relationship between the core and the casing layer. Just as a soft layer over a hard layer increases spin, a hard layer over a soft layer will lead to LESS spin. By fine-tuning this hard-over-soft relationship between the reformulated core and the high-flex casing layer, R&D was able to incrementally decrease driver and long game spin.

    TT Member Feedback:

"Very pleased with the performance of the new AVX. Felt it was slightly longer 3-5 yard off tee and fairway. Consistently checked up on the green for flight from 100 in and rolled great on chips around the green and with putter."

NEW AERODYNAMIC DIMPLE DESIGN FOR MORE DISTANCE AND CONSISTENT FLIGHT

Pursuing the same path that led to significant aerodynamic advances in the 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x, Titleist aerodynamicists upgraded AVX with a promising dimple design that they first tested in 2013. Featuring seven different dimple sizes, this new 348 tetrahedral catenary dimple pattern has been optimized exclusively for the low flight window of AVX. With this more efficient aerodynamic profile, new AVX flies farther, while maintaining its signature low, piercing trajectory.

In addition to generating longer distance off the tee and in the iron game, AVX's new dimple pattern also delivers greater consistency in ball flight. The result? Tighter shot dispersion and more predictable carry distances – important keys to improved shot-making and scoring. Your less-than-perfect shots will still be playable, and your good shots will finish even closer to your target.

    TT Member Feedback:

"New AVX cut through the wind as well as the prior generation and there was a significant distance gain with the new ball. I was able to control the trajectory better with the new ball. It did not balloon with the short irons. I think what I liked the most with the new generation AVX, I play a lot of knock down shots in the wind and this ball reacted very well on those type of shots both keeping the ball down and once it hit the green it would take one big hop and then bite."

Combined, the entire revamped construction – reformulated core, high-flex casing layer, reformulated urethane cover and brand new aerodynamics package –  results in a new AVX golf ball that remains true to its original design objectives while checking every improvement box that AVX players have asked for.

Just finished testing the new generation AVX. Sorry I'm so late with this review but coming off knee arthroscopy done in early January. This ball fits my game nicely. I play in Texas with a lot of windy days. The new AVX cuts through the wind with a more piercing trajectory allowing more distance on all clubs. I usually get 3-5 yards more than previous AVX balls and 5-7 yards more than ProVs. I don't spin the ball back off the greens with this ball nearly like ProVs. They simply hit, take one hop, and stop about 4-6ft from the pitch mark. The sound and feel around the greens is a plus. They feel good off the putterface as well. A very good ball for this 12 handicapper.
  3. Have always been a Pro V1 guy but I think this is the year I try these out! Looking forward to gaming these once the snow melts!

I have played the Pro V1 or its equivalent (Pro 90, or 100), and before that whatever Titleist ball was for sale for the last 60 years. The AVX is such a great feeling ball - now that I'm in my mid-70s a soft-ball allows me to feel the shots better. Love this ball.

I took part in the test and have been looking forward to playing this ball! I really liked the first gen of the AVX and in testing this ball really felt good for my game. Another great ball by Titleist!
  7. I have enjoyed the previous edition of the AVX. I just ordered a dozen of the new AVX and I am anxious to try it out. My home course has undulating greens that hold well. The AVX stays where it lands, while other balls spin dramatically backward. I alternate with the ProV1X when playing courses with firmer greens, and when conditions are wet, and roll is minimal. Thank you Titleist for providing the best choice of golf balls in the marketplace. I will follow up with my opinion of the new AVX. I am 61 years old playing to a 5.5.
  8. Looking forward to trying these in the coming weeks
  9. I have played the prior year AVXs and have liked them but not enough to kick the ProV out of my bag. This may be the year! What am I gonna do with all my ProVs?? :-)
  10. Would love to try them
