    Hey Team Titleist,

We're back with our latest quick poll and we want to know which tee boxes you are teeing it up from these days. Let us know in the quick poll below and feel free to add a comment to share some more about your selection.

And to help add some context to the options here are some approximate total course yardage ranges to help define the different tee boxes above...

    The Tips = 7,200+ yards

    Back Middle = 6,200 - 7,199 yards

    Forward Middle = 5,200 - 6,199 yards

Forward = Up to 5,200 yards

Combo = Combination of Back Middle and Forward Middle Tees

I usually try and play from the tees that are more then 6000 but no more them 6500.

I usually try to play in the 6200 - 6400 range. Saw an interesting article on the USGA about "Best tees" that uses your 7 iron distance to determine which tees you "should" be playing

Usually I look for at least 6200 yards just for consistency. But there is nothing wrong with mixing it up and playing from the front tees either.

AT 77 I need all the help I can help to enjoy the game more. Think the tees I am playing are age and distance appropriate. Forward Middle = 5,200 - 6,199 yards. =)

The Men's competition at my home club plays off the "back middle" tee range. With my advancing age, I do notice some greens are tougher to hit in regulation than before. I'm just a few years away from moving up for club competitions.

6200 is my max, so whatever tees are around that is where I play from.

Depends on who I am playing with. Regular group of guys here play from around 5500 but if alone or playing with the longer hitters I will move back to 6000-6200 and hit a bunch of fairway woods on longer Par 4 holes.

At my home course play the Blue tees that are 6600 yards.

I always heard that by multiplying your 7-iron distance by 36 will help determine the approximate course length you should play.

I have been playing golf for 72 years. I played major college golf, won two county championships, won club and senior club championships. Twenty years ago my swingspeed was 110 mph. Ten years ago it was 100 mph. Five years ago it was 95 mph and now is around 88 mph. Swingspeed determines distance and I simply can't hit it far enough to play a 6,700 yard course. Or a 5,700 yard course. Plus, a good golf course is designed so that you are hitting appropriate clubs at the green. A par 4 should not be a driver followed by a three wood and a six iron. Most older players are playing a course that is WAY too long for them.

6200 to 7000 is my range.
6700 is most likely the sweet spot.
I can still get the ball around in good shape without making a fool of myself....sometimes. LOL

    Cheers,

The various algorithms all indicate I should play around 5700 yards. If the forward tees at 5300 and the next at 6100, I’ll play a combo mix of around 5800-5900 by swapping out par 3/4/5 holes over 170/380/460.

I try to play in the 6,100 to 6,400 yards range.

Interesting yardage choices. I am right on the boundary between Back Middle and Forward Middle. I generally play the White tees at my home course (6080) or the Blue-White Combo (6246). I will play Blues (6483) on men's night but usually my gang plays White/White-Blue.

These numbers were taken from an article by the USGA (The Seven Iron solution) and believe are right on target.

The 7 X 36 formula could have them actually playing shorter in some cases. I play in a Sr Men's league where we have a option where some utilize the age (over 70 can play the front tees, all others play the golf tees. Our tees are blue [champ], white [reg], gold [sr], red [sup sr/ladies]) to move up to their advantage instead of their ability. Which in some instances, actually hurts their game, especially if they do not have great short game.

    According to the USGA......

    7-Iron Distance Best Course Length

    80 yards or less 3,500 - 3,700

    95 4,100 - 4,300

    110 4,800 - 5,000

    125 5,400 - 5,600

    140 5,900 - 6,100

    155 6,400 - 6,600

    170 or more 6,700 - 6,900

I turned 80 this summer. According to the USGA's, "7 iron distance best course length" I'm right where I should be". My course, from the gold tees plays 5464 yards. My next course will be miniature golf!

Due to my age creeping up, I crept up to the forward middle tees and the game is so much more fun after I left my ego back at the other tees. Play a round or two and you'll find out how much more fun can be had.

I like the 6800 range, at altitude the ball goes. Turned 60 but still can poke it out there.
  21. As a senior I’m usually on the forward tees for a senior weekly sr. Event or monthly men’s club Saturday. Other games I try to move back as far as that ‘game’ feels comfortable. It’s becoming more acceptable to even split the game ‘ok so you two are playing the combo we’ll play the blues’. Watch the course rating from the different tees tho, as strokes given/received change!
  22. I play in a men's league where the average age is about 77 and the averge handicap index is 22. Approximately 9 months ago we added a playable tee box from 4900 yds vs. 5400.

All players are permitted to play the tee of their choice, with appropriate course handicaps applied. Nearly half of our group is now using this forward tee box and enjoying the game much more.
