My top 5 public venues in the SLC area:

1. Soldier Hollow Gold/ Silver (36 hole facility in Midway- Gold is "better", Silver is more friendly, but both are great)
2. Wasatch Mountain / Lake (Another 36 hole facility in Midway - I slightly prefer Mountain, but both are nice)
3. Stonebridge (27 hole facility; my favorite in SLC proper)
4. Bountiful Ridge (One of the more scenic courses, about 30 mins north of the city)
5. Mountain Dell Canyon / Lake (Yet another 36 hole facility; Similar setup to Wasatch, but closer to the city and not quite as nice)

I am not to familiar with the courses on the south end of the valley, but Thanksgiving Point and Hobble Creek have good reputations (I have not played either myself).

There are also a bunch of high end county clubs in SLC and Park City if you are a member somewhere with some pull and on good terms with your pro (e.g., Glenwild, Victory Ranch, Salt Lake Country Club).

Southern Utah also has some awesome tracks, but if you will be staying up near SLC, they are too far for a day trip.

Traveling to St George in the Fall - staying at Entrada at Snow Canyon. My home club is Troon affiliated, so plan to play Black Desert in addition to Entrada SC CC. Any other course recommendations would be appreciated.

Entrada is great, so that is perfect start. I haven't yet played Black Desert, but have heard great things. Sand Hollow is a must play (they have 27 holes and a pitch/putt course) and Copper Rock is also on the high end. The next tier down in price, but also good, would include Ledges, Coral Canyon and Sky Mountain.

Not too far away is Mesquite, NV, home to Wolf Creek. Depending on your age, you may know it from EA Sports golf video games. It is very much desert target golf and there are very few courses in the world quite like it. It's not for everyone, but if you like extreme golf, it's worth experiencing. For somewhat more traditional golf, Conestoga in Mesquite is usually in immaculate shape and the best "normal" course in Mesquite by far.

Wolf creek also has the closest casinos to Utah if that is of interest.

Sand Hollow is a great course and a fun play. I do enjoy Coral Canyon which is also a great play. We stay in Mesquite every November and play Sand Hollow. Also the Oasis Club in Mesquite has two 18’s designed by Arnold Palmer. Both good to play.

I second Sand Hollow. An awesome course (especially the back nine) with some crazy views. I also played Copper Rock while in Hurricane, UT and really enjoyed that as well. The only other course that is "can't miss" would be Black Desert!

I personally enjoyed the Ledges as well. Might give them a look as well.

Cedar Hills is a nice track in SLC area.
