I have Project X shafts in my irons and the grip size is perfect. I have Titleist DG R400 shafts in my wedges and the grips are too thin because the R400 shafts are much thinner than the Project X shafts! Therefore, how many tapes different are these 2 shafts please?

    Hi Rob,

It's not possible to answer this question without knowing which grips and grip thickness you have on both your irons and your wedges. If you can message me via Team Titleist to let me know, I will try to get you an answer.

    Thanks

Hi Neil, Thanks for responding. I have exactly the same size and spec grips on both, being Standard GP MC Blue. I think the problem has nothing to do with my grips, but arises solely because of the rate of taper from the butt of the TT DG is much greater than the Project X. Just hold both of these shafts and you will soon appreciate the problem. I reckon the difference in thickness might be as much as 4 layers of tape.

    Hi Rob,

Having spoken to our operations manager (responsible for all of our club assembly in Europe), the following is the case:

    • DGR400 is a 0.580" butt shaft
    • Project X is a 0.600" butt shaft
    • A GP MultiCompound grip has a 0.600" core size
    • If you have the same grip on each shaft, the DGR400 will be thinner
    • The variance of 0.020" is compensated for by one layer of grip tape.

    Hope that helps.
