I started playing golf 10 years ago (when I was 20) and had lessons at that time. In the intervening period, although I started off playing lots of golf ,it dipped to a couple of years without a game. This year I have started playing much more regularly although I have still not played enough to obtain a handicap.
I am looking to get more serious and work on obtaining a handicap, which in turn I can look to reduce, however my clubs are a sticking point. The set I have are off the shelf and aimed at beginners and with them I feel I have to put a lot of effort in to get anything out of them. I recently played a round using a friend's (who is a similar build to me) custom fitted clubs and the round was far less hard work!
People I play with have all raved about the benefits of custom fitting and I am quite spoilt in so far as I live in St Ives and the custom fit centre is only 5 mins away but I'm unsure whether a visit is premature?
My concern would I be wasting time (and money) going there now when I'm perhaps not consistent enough to get properly fitted? Should I buy some off the shelf clubs and then look about getting custom fitted?
