Wedge fitting

  1. Hi,  I've recently changed my irons which I had fitted at Celtic manor.  I decided on a combo cb and mb and was recommended kbs c-taper x flex shafts.  My fitting was 2 degrees upright and 1/2 inch longer.  I'm really pleased with them and the ball flight is fantastic.

My only dilemma I'm left with now are my wedges.  I currently have some old vokey's in 52,56 and 60 loft which are standard of the peg s200 wedge flex.  They are great however I do feel I drop a lot shorter when I get to my wedges because the rest of my set are longer but I've dealt with this over the years.

I spoke to a kbs rep about recommendations on shaft choice and the response was to stick with the c-tapers so its consistent through the set which makes sense.  I could stick with x flex or maybe go  stiff+ as most people recommend going softer in the wedges.

My last part of the jigsaw is the lie??? From what I have been told or read it makes sense to go flatter but at the moment I'm 2 degrees upright.  Would a good compromise be at 1 degree upright in my wedges?  Or do I stick with standard??  Really appreciate any feedback.  I can then get this sorted and concentrate on a good swing and not what clubs are in my hand!

    Thanks again

    Hi Gene,

I am sure some other members will have some feedback for you but, in general terms, carrying your iron shafts into your wedges will do no harm in terms of consistency - although you would generally look to go a bit softer as a lot of shots with wedges are not full shots.

We would always recommend getting fit for your wedges though - so loathed to offer advice on length, lie, etc. Gapping your wedges from your irons, through to the shortest shots you are looking to hit is so important - and fitting will be the best way to ensure that they are properly gapped.

    Hope this helps.
