    Huddersfield,

Is it just me? May be I'm getting old, but I've totally lost all my motivation to play through the winter months. I used to play every weekend, whatever the weather, but with the recent incessant rain and now colder weather I really can't be bothered.

    With you there!
Been on the course once in 6 weeks which is unheard of for me.
Lucky that my course hasn't gone to winter greens but it's on winter tees which are a mess, fairways are really soggy, greens are hit or miss.
Add in the wind and rain, the state all the gear gets in, I don't actually enjoy it and it becomes a slog.

Been mixing things up at the range, enjoying that and think my game is improving with it.

I moved courses as of the 1st of Jan to a championship Links because of the effects on the course the winter has, we are on winter tee's and proper greens. I'm still trying to play twice a week, and at least 1 night a week at the range with the odd bit of putting on carpet in-between, my theory the more effort goes in during the winter the more difference / improvement I'll see during the summer

    Huddersfield,

I know what you mean William m, but sometimes it's hard to motivate yourself to practice during the dank, grey winter months

It's hard going, I find goal setting something that helps.

for me its to get to single figures this year. my current handicap is 9.5 so shouldn't be too much of a challenge but I was to get as low as possible and keep it there. so for me, this year is all about putting in the work.

I'm keeping stats also this year, I want to improve fairways in Reg and Greens in Reg, so for me these are a few reasons to keep going out on the course and get my game where I want it to be.

Plus, I have a competition in 57 days in Dubai so I must be ready for that.

    Huddersfield,

Wow a trip to Dubai is certainly an incentive to get practicing.
My mood has changed since my original post, may be as the weather has improved!
The last couple of rounds have been reasonably good for, with a nett level and nett -2 (12), over 14 holes. We play 14 hole comps during the shorter daylight hours to give more people a chance to enter. It actually works quite well.
    Anyway, roll on Spring!

I couldn't agree more with the roll on Spring, 5.30 and leaving work in the dark is so depressing! never mind... on with my two hour minimum per night practice tonight... PUTTING

    Huddersfield,

My old putter is sat in the landing and often roll a couple of balls up and down the carpet!

We play every Sunday throughout the year. If it's hosing it down on the first tee then one of us usually relents and we retire for breakfast. We're lucky though, we play on a true links course and have full greens and tees throughout the year, mats for a couple of months to protect the fairways which is a fair trade off.

A heavy investment in Under Armour cold gear and beanie hats, not to mention mitts and a dram of malt at the turn is essential though!

Bailing out due to cold is not worth the peer pressure, so that's incentive enough
