Quinta Do Lago in Portugal has all that you have described and I have personally had many good family and golfing holidays in the same location. Also shopping and spa's for the ladies!!

Southern Portugal in May is excellent, though you are at the end of the "winter" season. The green fee prices actually go down in June.
There is a range of potential locations stretching away from Faro airport only limited by activities for the ladies and the amount you are prepared to spend. Vilamoura, Albufuera, Quinta do Lago are all decent.

I’ll second the Dubai shout, have played the Emirates several times over the years (family works for BA which helps with costs) and love it.
For a tournament course it was quite reasonable too...just bloody hot!!
There are loads of other beautiful places to play there also and for the Non-golfers several shopping malls and other things to do. As you’d expect there are also plenty of amazing places to eat in the evenings.

Yeh can’t go wrong with Portugal it has plenty areas to choose from.......

Would love Dubai but family said no, have been lucky enough to try Portugal for my 40th so might offer that up, I’m sure I will end up where ever I am told to go.

Vale de lobo in the Algarve would be really nice for an occasion like that. Beach so close by too. Probably not the best for shopping but taxi ride anyway. Congratulations by the way!

When I had my last significant birthday, I arrange a week at the ryder cup. Played 6 different courses and attending 4 days of the ryder cup, the US.

Push the boat out, your only 50 once, book up for 2020 in the US

A few people saying Dubai, but what about Abu Dhabi?

I'll be there in 8 years time. My wife is already thinking about what I can do. By then my son will be 15 and hopefully he'll still be into golf. She really wants us to be able to enjoy a day or weekend somewhere as a family. So far, St. Andrews and the environs are topping her thoughts.

Enjoy those remaining 8 years Peter, they go quick.
