What club ? What launch monitor ?

I was at the indoor at Carnoustie last week and thought it was very poor. GC2 LM but gave no clubhead speed, the yardages seemed miles out and when playing certain holes (Kingsbarns) it came up as the wrong hole rather than the one I was intending to play.

I was hearing about the young pro up there, apparently hits it miles.

I watched him on the simulator Stuart and what a swing he has...........fantastic to see how a ball should be hit,he hits his pw further than I can hit a 7 iron down wind down hill lol.

It's down for me, I'm from Inverness! But that sounds great, I had a look online, I see there's a nine holer now too.

It’s a skytrak launch monitor Stuart,it was ok but I found the room to dark for me with a few club shadows over the ball at address which made it harder for me to focus on the ball.........the room they have it set up in is too small aswell so the mat is set up to aim down the right of the screen but the ball flight comes out the middle,if that makes sense....and I forgot how much I hated hitting off mats lol.......but I’ve heard great feedback from others that have used it,I just couldn’t get used to the lack of light and the mat.

I had a lesson last week and it highlighted that I’m launching and spinning the ball too much with my irons. It’s great to find out more about your game and how your clubs work for you
  11. My local pro offers a gapping service, think it’s about £25 I’m tempted for the 2019 season see if there’s been much change in my distances etc

    Hell yes, they are great.
I use the one at my club a lot over the winter months to keep the swing going.
You can learn a lot about your swing, speed, angle off attack, launch, spin rates, distances, for each club, etc.

Ditto, I had a gap fitting session carried out at my golf club using the Pro's new Trackman studio, very informative and useful, he emailed me the report showing the details.
Discovered some of the lofts on my clubs weren't what they should be, so I've had the loft and lies checked through the set.
  14. I can get Gap Tested at my local range, which is very well equipped.
It's very informative and helpful in providing the basis for on-course club selection.
It can be useful as a regular part of your preparation for the new season.
My home club is getting a new clubhouse complex next year - all things being equal - which will have a full simulation studio as part of the Pro Facilities...
    Can't wait...

One of the best teaching aids anyone can use would be a good quality simulator (even if it's only once a year). The new Trackman 4 is awesome and knowing your actual hitting distances is priceless.

I would recommend anyone to go get each club in your bag measured and keep a yardage chart in your scorecard holder for on the course, just make sure you spend more time on your wedges with different types of shots.
This, along with a rangefinder has helped me a lot in the past year.

    Good luck
  16. One overlooked part of your game which you can use launch monitors and cameras is your putting. I recently had a session on a quintic putting lab which showed me everything you could want to know about your putting stroke.

My main takeaway was that it showed me that my putts were coming off with backspin rather than forward spin which led to inconsistent rolls. The ball was not starting its true roll until 2-3ft after the stroke (on a 10ft putt) where it should be within 1ft so I have had my putter de-lofted down 1.5 degrees and it's now rolling as it should.

Worth checking out the quintic website to see if it interests you.

In a bizarre coincidence, I just asked my pro at the weekend to see about getting me a putter fitting and he's going to get back to me as he doesn't have SAM putt lab or any other but is going to get me one organised.

I’d be very interested in finding out the spin on the putter for sure.
  19. Technology is a wonderful thing but some people get too bogged down with numbers.

I would love to try a TrackMan to see how accurate they are. But no one near me has one to my knowledge.

I reckon once I tried it they would struggle to get me to leave
  20. Luke's right, we seem to have limited visibility of "simulator/analysis facilities for putting, yet we spend loads of time on putting greens "grooving our faults".
I know that tour pros have consulted with Phil Kenyon at Southport on putting and he has equipment to analyse the putting stroke, but I've not even thought to research what's out there and how to access it.
Now there's a project for me!!

Check out MC's latest vid using SAM putt lab, I've watched a couple of other vids on them, amazing stuff. Gonna make the call this week and get a putter fitting.

    Mallow,

It's great to try the various simulators and see what the numbers are for your clubs.
I like the way Trackman results are available online for you afterwards so you can take your time to review in detail away from the fitting bay.
I do struggle a bit though to understand how they can give accurate readings when hitting into a net in front of you compared to outdoors if Trackman follows the complete flight of the ball. But still the technology has come a long way.
