OK so last weeks heatwave is over and I only had to play 3 rounds in the week including the hottest day of the year (Thursday).

Did you play last week and what tips do you have for playing in the heat? Plenty of water and sun cream are given...

I had a wet towel and bandana that I bought in California a few years ago. They didn't seem to cool as much as they did in the US.

I have two bandanas for hot conditions - one is a newish cooling towel that doesn't help much. The other is pretty old and has little pockets that seem to fill up and hold water - this works much better. I have also started having my umbrella up which does provide a fair amount of shade.

A few points for anyone who needs help with this post.

1, use a trolley and don’t carry 2, plenty of water , 3, umbrellas are a good way to cool down

4, try to use shade when you can.

Hope these help. Happy golfing everyone.

    Simon,

    Good tips.

Another is take 2 or 3 gloves and rotate them so you don't lose grip and the gloves will last longer. Also hydrate before the round take on water hours before if possible to avoid dehydrating too quickly.

Luckily the longest day was at Camberley Heath a lovely parkland with some tree cover and a well above average halfway hut.

AntD, nothing really prepares you for hot weather like being acclimated to it gradually. I grew up in Texas, walking the golf course in 100+ degrees but did it every week. I know that's impossible when a heat waive hits. That said, a few tips besides staying hydrated would be, wear thin, light colored clothes (white/yellow) that reflect sunlight, not soak it up (black/Navy/Brown). Thin, white bucket hat that you can pour cold water into. The hat tip is a big one. Just like winter when you want to keep your head warm, most heat is transferred through the top of your head. Lastly, adjust your pace a bit. I hate slow play but play without rushing to the point that you don't get your heart rate up. Do those things and you can still have a fun day of golf in hot weather.

    Dale,

Issue we have in UK over US is that once you walk down the 1st fairway you're a long way from cold water as a lot of courses don't have halfway huts and a lot of those that do only open at peak times. When in US it's great to find a comfort area with water and ice every 3 holes on some courses.

Thanks for the tips as well, although wearing yellow in UK during summer often leads to you being the target for insects of various species.
