  1. Hi everyone, hopefully this is the right place for this! Like a lot of people I dusted off my clubs at the end of the first lockdown last year, and have really got into it. I'd only played a handful of times well over a decade ago and it never really stuck, but now, a year on, I'm still playing most weeks and getting to the range, having lessons and finally looking to upgrade my Argos half-set.

First of all I'm looking at my irons, and I've seen Titleist AP1s are within the 'game improvement' range if I'm going used, but if anyone has any tips for slowly upgrading my bag as an improving player, I'm all ears. Also if anyone is around Gloucestershire, let me know any good courses and clubs! I'm aware of a couple of public courses (one being a 9 hole), but I don't really know many other golfers so recommendations always welcome.

Thanks a lot, and I look forward to what Team Titleist and its community can offer.

  2. Hey Chris,

    Welcome to Team Titleist!

Firstly, it's great that you're getting back into the sport. It's important to be aware that upgrading your bag is a fun but lengthy process. I found that once I upgraded my bag, I improved and outgrew them so much that I then needed to have another upgrade. Therefore, I would suggest trying to get adequate clubs as cheap as possible and simply try to improve as much as you can with them. This will then bring you into a stage where your game is good enough to truly benefit from the difference between an average driver and a great driver.

    Thanks
    Peter

Hi. Welcome to the team. Good luck with your game.
My advice is that when you think your game is up to it, make sure to get a fitted set. It can be a marginal gain but those little differences can add up to make a big difference on the course.
  4. Thanks for the welcome both! I have been thinking that fitted clubs will be the best way forward, I’ve seen some great videos of the process on YouTube lately, and it’s a lot less intimidating than I figured…although some more consistent strikes first may be in order!

I do feel a little stuck as my half set doesn’t give me a full range of irons that I feel I now need, but I also don’t want to spend too much as I’d rather wait until I can get fully fitted for that. I do think something like some Titleist AP1s second hand would hold their value reasonably well for when I do upgrade further.

As I say, excited to keep developing as a player, and seeing how I can be part of this community!

    Hi!

I wouldn’t worry about the mis-hits when getting fitted! The fitter will want to see your normal swing, so they can help to reduce the mis-hit etc!

    Good with getting fitted!

I’m also in the South West (Somerset), if you ever fancy a round let me know!

    Cheers

    :)
