I am curious to see if anyone else has had experience with bending their 46 degree wedge stronger for better gapping? I am aware that it decreases the bounce 1 degree each degree you bend. I am not too worried about the bounce, as I actually like to play with lower bounce. My 9 iron is at 40 degrees and I have a 50 degree vokey wedge as well. I am seeing around the same distance with my 46 and 50 degree vokeys, hence the thought of bending my 46 wedge stronger. Anyone have any recommendations?

  2. I have bent all my vokeys at one time or another 1-2 degrees...currently, I have my 60T bent one degree weak. It is a great way to fine tune your distances if needed.

    Cheers!
  3. RAW's bent easiest while Chrome are hardest to bend....FWIW

    My setup is 48-10F, 54-10S bent 2* strong. 58-06K and Phil 64 standard loft. I have a 60-14K, 60-04L, SM6 58-12K and 60-12K all 2* strong because I like the bounce.

48-10F bent to 46 is a perfect pitching wedge because 8* is the magic bounce. My wedge gapping is 46-54-58-64 (56-12D bent 2* strong). For Torrey Pines, replace 56-12D with 54-10S and add 58-12D. My wedge setup in 2013 was SM4 54-11M, 58-06L and 64-07T. Carried AP1 8-P. The Sumo2 SQ is back in the bag.

    At one time I played a 46-10F bent to 44 in place of a 9 iron (695MB). I used a 50-08F as a PW. I currently play a T100S 9 iron and use a 48-10F bent to 46 as a PW. 54-10S bent to 52, 58-12D bent to 56. 56-08K stock and Phil 64. I bend stronger because I like less bounce.

My lofts in the thumbnail are 44-48-52-56-60-64. The 44,52,60 are low bounce. 48-56-64 are high bounce.

It’s funny how what goes around comes around. At the start of COVID I was playing a 46-10F at 44* in place of a 9 iron and 695MB 7-8 irons at standard lofts but -1/2 length.

I reintroduced a Sumo2 SQ 34 hybrid after not having used one since 2015. This is a no-brainer because it is almost impossible to miss.

I’m playing a 695MB 8 iron at 39* and standard length plus a 46-10F at 44*. The Vokey hits the same distance as a 9 iron.

At the start of COVID I was playing 50-08F. I just returned to 50-12F bent to 49*

Definitely. I bent my 46degree SM9 to 45 to make it tie better with the gapping in my bag. Worked like a charm.

46-10F fits very well into my gapping scheme. From 7H to 64* wedge it it 34-39-44-49-54-59-64.

It gets the same distance as a “player” 9 iron.

Recently, I replaced my t350 Pitching wedge with 46F 10 SM 10 and bent it two degrees strong

I'm not a golf guru, so I'm curious why you would buy a new wedge and then have it bent 2 degrees instead of buying the new wedge at that particular degree of loft. Might be a good explanation but I don't know it.

It’s called “bounce” and comfort. If you take a 46-10F and bend it to 44, it replaces a “player” 9 iron.

One thing is K grind is available only in 58 and 60 lofts. A K grind is very versatile with 12* bounce. Plus 56-12 or 58-12 has been a mainstay for bunkers since 2018. After SM6, K grind went to 14*

Certain grinds like S, T, M or low bounce K are best left stock. 50-08F and 52-08F are best left stock.

If you take D grind and bend it 1 or 2* strong, it plays more like SM4 wedges. The SM4 M grind was 54-11 and 60-10. I’ve been playing 54-12D at 52* as a gap wedge.

Think about this: 50-12F bent to 48= 48-10F but 1/4” shorter vs the stock 48-10F.
