  1. I am trying to find a new set of irons for my wife by Titleist…This, For the average 15-25 handicap female golfer are the T400 probably a good place to start?

It is the end of the season and fittings are not readily available and a local fitter was trying to talk us into a competitor brand (without knowing my commitment to Titleist!)

Just curious on the group’s thoughts… especially from the female golfers in our community.

    Thank you!

Hi! Is this the same Chris who I met at Bandon Dunes and Streamsong?
This is Lisa (Abdon’s other half) and excited to hear your wife is going to start playing!
My bag is now full Titleist, starting with wedges years ago, then added a Scotty putter. Last fall came the driver and fairway woods, then hybrids and irons this spring. Over the the past 40 years I’ve had sets of Macgregor, Cleveland, cally, miz, TM before my current Titleist clubs. I’m an 11 hcp and was fitted with T300’s if that gives you a reference point for possibly selecting T400s for your wife.
I love the Titleist clubs; have had my lowest scores playing with them
I’ve noticed that Titleist clubs are not gender specific( no pink clubs for ladies)
Getting fit would be ideal. Titleist sent an email out just this week listing upcoming fitting dates and sites across the country. Did you see it? I can forward to you if you’d like.
    Happy Shopping!

Lisa, can you post the link for the rest of us to benefit from the listings. Thanks. Do you guys live near San Francisco? My wife and I spent our honeymoon there and use to go there every five years. I was a District Manager for Levi's Retail Division. My office was in Memphis, TN, covering PA, TN, MS, MO, AR, LA, OK, KY and AL.

Chuck Z, we live near Sacramento which is about a 2 hr drive from San Francisco. Do you ever come out west since retiring? Be sure to let us know and we can play some rounds together

It has been a while. Have been doing a lot of cruising on this side of the world. COVID has put a damper on our cruising lately. Taking advantage of free cruising while we can. Not exactly free, we collect art. Also my wife worked for a cruise lines for after she retired. Have done Palm Springs, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Carmel/Monterey/Pacific Grove. Maui and San Fran are on our bucket list after our next cruise to Europe. We were supposed to go on a Baltic Sea cruise and to St Petersburg Hermitage Museum in Russia, but you see how that went. No golf on the cruises. My wife does not play so when I travel with her I usually do not bring the clubs. We do the tourist thing. So much to do in California and her family is go big she has cousins everywhere we visit, so it seems. Think she said she has 50 first cousins. Maybe we can meet for lunch. Love the bouillabaisse in SF. The first time I visited there when I worked for Levi's we went out to dinner at Scoma's and had it for dinner. Have eaten at other eateries, but really enjoy it. Expensive fish stew. ha..ha..ha..

Thanks for the link. The two names that come up for our area, Bill Forbes and David Ayres are my two fitters. Best in the state. Highly recommend them.

Chris , you know a fitting is essential especially all of us on the far edge of the 25-40 male “average golfer”.
I’ve had both, and the T300 is my preferred iron over the T400. I used the same shaft in both.
Maybe Titleist can send you or a local Titleist fitter one of each iron with the lighter (C9?) swing weight. Trying the men’s D2 won’t be helpful.

Chris, I know that you may not want to hear this, but my wife uses the png G le2 Irons. She tried Titleist and Cally, but found that the G le2's had a better overall weight and balance for her. She hits the heck out of them, much better than her previous clubs which I won't get into. Sometimes, loyalty to the wife's golf game comes before what we would like them to play. Just keep an open mind with this.
  11. The T400s are fun to hit, no matter what your handicap. I’d steer you towards the T300s based on her handicap if she’s going to play a lot. Most of the women I play with start out with super game improvement like T400s or cally and then trade them in after they start breaking 90 on a routine basis. The T400s have a chunky look and some people don’t like it. Kudos to you for hooking your wife up with real clubs, you are the man!!!

I went from Cally's to the T300's and they have really improved my game. I went from a 15 handicap to hovering around a 9-10 since putting them in my bag. I know Golf Galaxy does Titleist fittings, so if there's one near you, they may be able to help. Go through the fitting locator link that Lisa included in her post to find a nearby fitter.

That's an awesome improvement...keep it up! Just curious, did you get fit for the T300's?

I did. I had never had a fitting before and figured if I wanted to improve my game, buying off the rack wasn't going to cut it. I'm tall and have always played men's clubs since I started playing golf with my Dad's old Sam Snead's and was actually fitted for men's T300's.

(Disclaimer: the ironic thing is, my fitting basically ended up being standard specs. But I did upgrade to Recoil graphite shafts instead of the Tensei's due to supply line issues)

Hi Mary Beth, that's an awesome result you're getting with the switch to T300's!!
I believe getting fit really makes a difference for getting the consistency in the shots that can lead to lower scores. Putting and short game is what keeps my index high currently. The lowest I've gotten is 9.6 earlier this year. If I could clean up my act around the greens I could get back there... big IF, haha

The wife has Honma Woods (for lighter weight) and the png G LE2s for irons and wedges. Trying to get the T300s or the T400s irons and wedges in her bag, as well as a TSi1 Driver, in her bag. Although, we might wait for the TSR1 to arrive at the end of January 2023. Need to see if the Speeder 35 will remain as a shaft option for her.

As long as the Speeder shaft is currently available, it should be an option.

I went from the T100 model to the Titleist CNCPT 01 and never looked back. Very easy to hit without being too chunky. They are a little bit more expensive, so you definitely want to be fitted…

Best of luck with whatever you guys decide.
  20. Hi. Only just seen this! My daughter plays off 36. She has T200's with A Flex Steel Fiber shafts. I'm a firm believer its all in the shafts! Sounds like your wife is a pretty decent steady level so T200/300 might be an option. But take time to research the shafts.
