While i was away in FL last week, i was asked by a good friend to pick up some ball markers from the courses i was playing at.  So i started thinking, do i have a favorite ball marker that i game with?  I did have one last summer and lost it, it was an Ecuadorian coin from when i visited Ecuador a few years ago.  Something about the coin that i liked and kept it.   Now I need a new one...

So I'm curious, does anyone have a special ball marker they use?  Is it a superstitious thing to play with that ball marker?

Would love to see some pictures of ball markers...

I either use my FJ Ambassador ball marker, Titileist, or SC alignment marker.  Depends on the day, but always one of the three!

Last year for Father's Day my wife got me a ball marker with my kids names on one side and their actual hand prints on the other.  Definitely the coolest present I've gotten and I doubt anything will ever top it for me.

tdogg21, i gotta admit that is a pretty sweet ball marker..  Best one i've seen in a very long time..  The hand prints is the best part..   You got a good wife there...

I need to show this to my wife, give her some ideas for my birthday coming up...

    Thanks for sharing!

That really is an awesome ball marker! Must be nice to look down when lining up a putt and realize there are much more important things in the world.

Certainly a better ball marker than whatever old quarter I can find at the bottom of my bag.

    Really enjoy hearing everyones comments.

My boys got me each a ball marker for Father's Day last year.  One has my name on it, the other "#1 Dad".  My 5 year old is the gatekeeper of the markers, he selects which one I should use if we're playing together.

I usually rotate them when it's rounds on my own.

Thanks guys.  It really was a special present.  She googled it and found a lady that makes them.  She sent my wife a special paper that she used to get my kid's hand-prints.  Then the lady sized them down and stamped them on the marker.  It's just really cool to know that is their actual hand-prints, not just some stock image.  I have to admit, I don't use it all of the time.  I'm terrified it's going to fall out of my pocket and I'm going to lose it!

In addition to my FJ Ambassador marker, I have a few I cycle through.  For years, I used an Iraqi one dinar coin. It's large enough to see, has meaning for me (three TYD's in Baghdad), and is about the same diameter as the ball.  Recently, I've been using a BestGrips poker chip marker I received in a local outing (one of our members is the founder/owner of BestGrips).  When I do, I also carry a magnetic marker on the bill of my cap, so I have a smaller marker to use if I'm on or near someone else's line on the green.  Those rotate among the FJ Ambassador, a USGA handicap system, and a resort course marker.

I have quite a few unique ball markers, but usually leave them at home on my dresser: I hate loosing them. Unless it is a special round, I take a Quarter, Nickel and dime.

Quarter for long puts, Nickel for medium range, and Dime for tap in range and minimum distraction for others.

tdogg: Awesome marker. I would be very careful with that one.

What I use depends on the bag I'm using.  The majority of the time I'm using my stand bag and with it I carry an Iowa Hawkeyes ball marker, STL Cardinals ball marker and a Titleist ball marker.  Whichever one I grab out of the bag is the one I'm using for that round.  When I go on golf trips (couple times a year) I take my cart bag and in it I have a bunch of foreign coins I picked up while traveling for work.

Otherwise a bunch of Titleist magnetic markers which are great because they are slim and flatten on the green nicely.

For the past few years, I have  used a 1977 Kennedy half-dollar.  I was born in '77 and this was my father's, who passed away in 2010.  I found the coin in his ring/watch box and have used it ever since.  Always marked with the president's gaze towards the hole.  It treats me well!!

My family got me a new ball marker for Christmas. On one side it has the name of my three children and our new dog (perhaps my wife's and my newest "child").  On the other side it says "Kick Putt" (pun obviously intended). Thanks. J.A.C.

I generally put one of my favorite Titleist ball markers down when I pick up my ProV1x up off the green.  I also have a smaller marker from one of the clubs where I play if I am near somebody's line.  Below is a picture of my regular marker, which is about the diameter of a ball.

    Great topic!

Tim, you definitely take the cake.  I can't see anything topping that gift from you wife.  Thanks for sharing.

I have two little bags, one with marks from courses and companies and one with coins.  I generally take one out of each bag. (1 large and one small).  If I have a shorter putt I'll use the small one, and if it's a lagger, I'll have a larger one.  I've got a good little collection going, and often grab extras for friends and they generally return the favor.  Markers are cool little souvenirs that are generally free or only a couple of bucks.  Here's a couple of my favorites.

I have a peso that was in my pocket when I asked my wife to marry me.  That's a lucky one for sure.

The TT markers look nice hint hint... I always put a penny and a dime in my pocket, too afraid of losing expensive or meaningful markers!

  37. I use 2/3 ball markers. One/two, 2 1982 quarters (my birth year). 1 from my sister, 1 from my mother. I'll alternate those on the front 9. Three, I have a marker from the club. Had it ever since I first went there. I use that on the back 9.

Yes I do have two favorite's one is a 1925 peace silver dollar it represents the birth year of my father-in law how has passed. I recently added another to my bag it's a 1938 silver 1/2 dollar my fathers birth year who passed in 2013. They didn't mint a silver dollar that year. Both were great men that I respected greatly they both influenced my life and I miss them daily. And every time I mark a ball on the green it eases my soul just thinking of them. In my own way reliefs the jitters on the tough pressure putts.

    Nice topic, Christopher!

Lately, I like magnetic poker chip markers.  Otherwise, I use "pin" markers from courses I liked or played well.

No superstitions; just use what I pull out of the bag.  Like some, I lost a favorite marker: Disney World's Eagle Pines (a Pete Dye course that I believe no longer exists).  In the future, I will purchase "a backup" from the special places.
