I have been a Titleist guy for more than 20 years. I love the fact that Titleist adds to its gear some amazing features to improve my game. The alignment feature on all Titleist balls is a prime example.
  2. It takes a while to get used to putting with the line. You have to learn how to trust it, as sometimes (at least to me) it looks like I am lining up way left of the hole. But, I've become a much better putter, especially on longer putts where I believe it makes the most difference.

I use the arrow on the Prov1x for putting, and I have 4 red dots 2 under each number I square up that I can see off the tee.

I use the arrows on the PROVX as an alignment guide.

I use it off the tee, but only in the sense that someone once told me the “polarity” of the ball could be off and that it flies best when the alignment is correct. I doubt very little that it matters with Titleist, but the practice stuck.

Although to me, it’s more of “I’m sending the ball THAT WAY, versus the alignment pointing to the edges of the hole, for instance. Just a positive message thing more than any else.

On the green, I put the alignment underneath. I want to be looking at a plain white ball, and no more. I focus on other things for putting.

That said, my mark is a green underline between Titleist and the number. It’s my subtle reminder to remain steady and to get it on the green asap.
  6. I use the alignment clues that are already on the ball for both putting and drives. I don’t mark my own but if I did it would align with the cover seam. The stamped lettering/lines don’t seem to do that so maybe it’s not a big deal.
  7. Use it on the green putting with only my trail hand, use it on the range specifically with mid irons. Improved my hitting it to the right
  8. I started using a line through the side marking 6-7 years ago, and I have found that I roll the ball much better than previously. I line it up using the mark, then only look at the back of the ball when putting. If you're looking at your line, then that may be your problem.

Alignment aid is a distraction. I don't buy those balls that have it.

Yes. And it’s helped my putting dramatically. I had no idea how bad my alignment was until after I started using an alignment mark on my ball to aim at the intended line. It took me a while to stand over the ball and trust the alignment tool. Once I did it really helped my putting. Some people say it’s too restrictive for them, but I find it just the opposite. It frees my mind to trust the line, lineup properly, and hit my putt online.
  11. A HUGE help for aligning putts. I use Dave Pelz’s double line alignment tool on my ProV1 Left Dash. I line up, use my putter shaft to check the alignment lines and adjust if needed. It’s taken strokes off my game. Titleist needs to add a custom option for thicker alignment lines spread out further so that it can be seen on the outer edges of a putter shaft’s width. Very similar to cally’s triple alignment lines.

I wish the USGA would outlaw using an alignment aid on the golf ball. It slows the game down at our club. I watch guys meticulously align their ball, then give it a look and realign, only to miss the putt anyway. If we are behind a foursome of alignment aid nuts, it easily adds thirty minutes to our round.

I don't use an additional aid, but I use the side arrows religiously on the greens. I do my best to read the green, taking into account the slope and any curve that I see. Pick my line using the side arrows and give it a good roll.
  14. I use the lines / arrow that are already on the ProV1’s for putting. So far so good.
  15. I use the alignment aid on both the tee and on the green. I use the 'enhanced alignment' PROV1x in the summer hot weather, and the Tour Soft in the colder months. I especially like the Tour Soft split T alignment aid because it gives me a start line reference and a second reference that the club face is square to the start line.

Would think one more time-consuming distraction is unneccessary.
  17. Like less thickness in line. This looks like another player put the line on.
  18. I don’t use an alignment aid but I am going to start using one while putting. I have been hitting the ball really well for an old man but my putting has been terrible. I had one round where I hit the ball 40 times with my clubs and 40 times with the PUTTER! I have to do something different.
  19. If we had a completion of rolling the ball to the hole with our hands…would you need an alignment aid?! I bet not.

However, play to your strengths. Golf is a game of confidence. Just don’t over think it, remember to be athletic and instinctual.

“There’s a lot of kids that step on the putting green and just kind of feel the putt, just stand over and whack it. A lot of people do that well… and I just can’t.”

Some prefer to use it and some don’t – It’s a player’s choice when it comes to using an alignment aid on your golf ball (think drawn on line, custom alignment aids, or lining your ball up with the Titleist script or sidestamp).

And for Pro V1 loyalist Viktor Hovland, the black line that he marks his golf ball with before every round was an essential part to defending his title last week at the World Wide Technolgy Championship at Mayakoba to take home his 3rd career PGA Tour victory – where he carded 28 birdies over the course of the week and broke the tournament scoring record.

Hear from Viktor below as he walks us through how he’s marked his golf ball since he was young, and don’t forget to let us know above if you use an alignment aid or not! Bonus points if you include a picture in the comments.

Love the alignment off the tee as a gentle reminder where I want it to start… and on the green it is half my game… correct ALIGNMENT + correct speed=makes
