First of all many thanks for the chance to test a Titleist golf ball.
I have played 2 games since I received my trial packs, one with the red numbered ball and one with the black numbered ball. Both games have been played in cold conditions nothing above 7oc!!
I played with the black numbered ball first. It felt good off both the faces of the driver and irons, soft but this did not mean I lost any distance at all. It was responsive around the greens and seemed to have a high spin and check when chipped. It stopped well when coming high of the mid irons. It felt soft off the putter face but rolled well. It scuff up a bit but no more than a Pro V1 or V1x.
I've just played with the red numbered ball. It seemed a little harder than the black number but still had a good feel to it. I hit the ball about a club further than normal with it but it didn't jump of the face as some hard balls do. It felt good when chipping the ball and I manged to get it to check and stop. It stopped well when coming in from height with the mid irons.
All in all I would say I preferred the ball with the black number as it felt a bit softer than the red number.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for letting me be part of the ball test,
I played on Monday/Tuesday at the belfry and used the balls you sent me, they felt very good of the driver face. Not driving as far at the moment as cold but still felt good. With the irons and wedges into greens the ball performed better than I was expecting so all in all I would use this ball again, if you could let us know what ball this was please team titleist that would be grand.
thanks again for letting me be part of the test, keep up the great work

Enjoyed playing with both balls, I usually use NXT and found both the black numbered and red were longer off the tee than my NXT's.
Both felt good off of my putter but I seemed to play the black ones better with mid iron to wedge.
Greens were very soft so can really comment on spin.
Thank for letting me try-out these balls and I would like to know what they were.

Many Thanks for the test balls quite a surprise
The Black number ball didnt seem to fly as far as the Red one on my drives,
The Red ball scuffed more easy then the Black one, the Red ball held its flight better in the wind.
Both balls rolled well on the greens and felt good of the putter.
I dont know if it was the balls but I played a more consistent game with them.
Many thanks for letting me test these balls

Hi T T,
Thanks for the test balls, here's my results.
Have just come in from playing 12 holes on a perfect winter's afternoon. No wind, some rain this morning so the fairways and greens quite soft with little or no roll out and relatively warm considering.
I took out 2 of each ball (red and black) and tried to play a whole variety of shots to gauge the performance. I was lucky to have the course virtually to myself and was able to play all 4 balls on most of the holes.
My initial reaction on receiving them was that they were quite firm, not really an issue for me as my current ball of choice for this time of year is the DT Solo in yellow (so much easier to see !). Doing the good old reliable 'teeth test', I would of said that the black was slightly firmer, however, in actual play, I was hard pushed to tell the difference.
From the tee and using the driver, I found them both pleasantly long with a very good ball flight on both, no ballooning and both pretty straight. Likewise, on par three's, iron shots felt solid and they both gripped reasonably well on the soft greens. I was interested to note that, when I played our little signature, drop down, par three 12th with a 56 degree wedge, whilst I managed to get approximately 2 to 3 feet of backspin with the black, I spun both red balls back between 8 and 10 feet, that was hitting off a winter mat with no tee.
Chipping around the greens, with a 50 degree Vokey SM4, I didn't manage to get too much spin with either ball but it's one of the weaker parts of my game so no reflection on the ball !
I don't tend to turn my nose up at two piece balls, providing they feel good and provide some feedback when putting, which I feel is vitally important. Thankfully, I wasn't disappointed with either ball. I holed some good putts and found the distance control very good. If anything, I would say the black came off the putter face a little quicker but the feel with both balls was good.
I was interested to note that some of the other testers felt the red was the longer ball. In several instances today, having played the same shot with both balls, I found the black to be noticeably longer and, on a couple of occasions, nearly 2 clubs difference. I carried a 7 iron 147 with the red and 159 with the black, using a SkyCaddie GPS to get the yardage, on one of the holes.
Overall, very impressed with the performance of these balls and would be quite happy to put them into play as my winter ball. I think I would probably find them a little too firm for the summer months and would stick to my trusted Pro V1.

I used the black numbered sleeve of balls for one round and i must say i loved them and just happened to shoot my best ever round using them. I currently use Nxt Tour which i love but i found these balls were also great. I found the ball flew straighter with all my clubs and also i seem to generate alot more hight with them. Around the greens the ball would stop very quick which gave me great confidence to attack the flag. Putting was very consistant and felt solid off the face. Overall i loved these balls and it will be interesting to see what they were. I will try the red numbered balls next round and let you know how they went.

Continuing to test the balls. Now favour the black over the red although both have excellent grip on full wedge shots. Putting has been a delight as our greens are based on a sandy soil (inland links!!) and they are surprisingly fast for the time of year. Still achieving more distance on full shots with both black and red. If I can manage to hold onto them for the start of the season I look forward to playing them in warmer conditions. Weather permitting am managing a minimum of two games a week through the winter so fingers crossed the snow stays away.
Many thanks for the opportunity to test them, they are great.

Thanks for the opportunity to test these balls for Titleist. I have played a few winter games with the new balls over the last two weekends testing both the red and black numbered balls.
My initial thoughts are the ball seemed to have more distance off the tee. I felt this added some 10/15 yards to my normal shot. Strikes from the sweet spot of my irons felt very solid from the club and had much less side spin.Shots within 50/100 yds had good stopping spin on the greens and a good feel which gave me the confidence to attack some pins. There was a solid feel when putting that felt different to other Titleist balls I've used. The ball was in good condition following 18 holes of golf. My overall impressions are very positive and I would certainly be interested to know what ball type I tested and when these balls are available to purchase.

TRIED MY FIRST TEST BALL YESTERDAY. FINE WEATHER 10c GROUND SOFT.
RED NUMBERED BALL COVER FELT VERY TACTILE AND SOFT. UNLIKE MY NORMAL HARDER WINTER BALLS.
NO NOTICABLE INCREASE IN DISTANCE . STRUGGLE WITH CONTROL AROUND THE GREENS SO 'HIT & MISS' WITH ANY SHOT. DOES NOT GIVE FAIR TEST OF BALL CAPABILITY.
BAD DAY WITH PUTTER BUT BALL VERY QUIET OFF THE FACE.
NOT SURE IF THIS FEEDBACK HELPS BUT THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEST OUT.

Once again many thanks for the two sleeves of balls.
Played all weekend with the red dot version and have the folowing points;
This flew further, in respect of carry, the ground was not allowing much roll. It sound good off the club face, particularly the driver and flies with less spin.
Approaching greens it held firm and enabled you to put shots in at the pin with confidence.
On the green it came off the putter cleanly and had a consistent roll, I tried both at the club and on carpet at home.
In respect of durability there was little scuffing and the surface was still in good condition at the end of a round; two different balls used Saturday and Sunday with the same results.
Overall I was very impressed and would buy this ball.
Great results.

I have used the Test ball for a number of rounds and I am very pleased with the results. Good reaction off the driver, positive feel off the irons and it putts very well. The cover doesn't show signs of wear even with spin milled wedges, and the spin action is consistent with Pro-Vs

Hi Dave. Sadly my feedback is very limited as torn knee cartilage and golf don't go together at the moment, so my comments are purely restricted to putting. 2 distinct feels. I use an O putter and my preferred ball, the Black (softer) comes off the face with a nice 'thunk', whilst the Red (harder) has a harsher feel and sound. The consequence of this is that I have more 'feel' and 'control' with the softer ball. Assuming the putting stroke is a rocking of the shoulders and not a wrist action, I feel the Red will be better on softer greens (more roll) with the Black preferable on firmer 'faster' greens (combination of more check on approach shots and a 'hard' ball can have too much 'zip' off the metal putter face). It's great to see Titleist continue to market a range of 'soft' balls - ProV1, NXT Tour S and Velocity and the comparable alternative 'hard' balls - ProV1x, NXT Tour and DT SoLo. I am a big fan of the Tour S and Velocity - not so ProV1 as any Driver strikes with anything but a square face causes too much side spin = slice = too much dispersion. If you could design a ball with the distance/narrow dispersion of the Velocity and the green side check of the ProV1, it would storm the market. I do appreciate the opportunity to test/comment and only sorry it has come at the wrong time for me. I hope there will be a next time when I can do the test justice. All the best.

I tried the test balls with black numbers this weekend - very good feel off the driver with good distance and little side spin . Good feel off long and short irons - quite difficult to comment on spin on greens as they were quite soggy . Very good feel off the putter . Last comment is what a good condition the balls where in after playing 18 holes Saturday and 18 holes Sunday --- red numbers next weekend ..

Tried out the black numbered test balls on a relatively wind free cold day 7 degrees. Distance was excellent got a couple of drives about 280 yards, irons flew straight and true with reasonable spin, full wedges I had dancing around a few pins, short pitches and chips were easy to control and putting feel was excellent. Will be trying the red numbered ones this weekend.
Any chance of some more of the black ones ?

Just used test balls kindly delivered by Titleist. Normally play NXT in all weathers but both the sleeves of balls appear much straighter from the tee either using 910 d2 driver or 913 fd fairway. Normally have slight fade off tee but not with test balls. Solid consistent flight with irons even in the wind only downside to be noticed is that the cover is easily damaged when using my wedges. NXT seems more durable. Overall really impressed with test balls and again Titleist thank you for giving me the chance to try some out.

Firstly many thanks for the balls. I'm delighted to be asked to take part in the programme.
I've managed a round with each of the balls now and on each occasion played as a single and so was able to play the test ball and another brand of ball on several holes to help with comparison.
No doubt due to playing in winter conditions, I didn't notice anything particular in terms of feel with the driver or the distance gained off the tee. What I did notice was a greater degree of control with my irons and, in particular, an increase in spin with shots of 50-100 yards. I actually managed to spin my ball back on more than one occasion which is almost unheard of!!
I had no problem with durability although I was striking the ball well which will obviously have helped.
I liked the feel off the putter face but with the greens being challenging at this time of year it's difficult to be totally objective as I wasn't getting a true roll on the whole.
To be honest, I'm not a good enough player to be able to really notice the difference in performance between the two types of ball you sent. I enjoyed using them both equally and certainly felt that they performed better than the other brands I was testing them against.
Thank you again for the opportunity, it's much appreciated.

just finished playing with the test balls thanks titleist.
i play off 20 and have been custom fitted by a titleist staff member (glen richards tavistock) to use a pro v1.
i found both balls to have high spin rates, and found the black numbered ball to be the best in all area of my game, however both balls seem to stop quickly around the greens.
both balls were a bit longer then my 2013 pro v1s.
are these balls 2014 prov1s?
if so i found them a little firm.
i lost 4 during my 18 holes but didnt have the best of days normally i lose 1 or 2.
hope this helps.
any more freebies send them this way!!

distance very good red test ball more forgiving than the black test ball they land and stop on the green sound great off the driver, the red test ball being slightly better around the green for me,i thought the black test ball gave me a slightly lower ball flight the red appears to scuff up quicker than the black. I would probably buy the black ball but both are very good golf balls as you would expect from the best ball maker in the world. Cannot wait to find out what they are to buy some
