I tested the balls yesterday (25/10/14). Handicap: 8. Ground conditions: Fairly soft. Weather: Fine

    Driver:

Felt very good off the club face, no discernible difference in distance versus a pro-v1. The ground conditions were relatively soft which limited any roll out.

    Long/Middle Irons:

They fizzed off the club face, nice flight with very little deviation. Soft greens aided back spin.

    Short Irons:

May be attributed to the ground conditions on the day, but i felt these balls offered greater control on three quarter shots over both the pro-V1 and the V1x. Pitching into the greens from either fairway or semi-rough resulted in the ball gripping and stopping on a six-pence. Distance control greatly improved.

    Putting:

Felt exactly like a Pro-V1 off the putter face, which is a positive! The balls offered responsive feel, smooth roll and consistent distance from the strike.

I'd definitely use/recommend these, although, at my level, they didn't seem to be any better or worse than the current pro-V1 product.

I've played two games this weekend both with the test balls. A little disappointed at first as after the first strike with a wedge the cover looked marked which I didn’t expect and after the 36 holes I would only be using the ball for the practice area. Saying that the ball has performed very well in the wind and has a good responsive feel around the greens although I’ve not seen any yardage gained against my normal Pro V1x.

Got my sleeve of test balls earlier this week and had a round with them today.

Firstly, vast improvement on the longevity of the ball, full 18 holes with hardly any blemishes or marks.  Yet still manages to hold the same softness fell whilst around the greens.

No discernible difference in distance to previous models but did seem to get a really nice connection feel with full iron shots.

    Yet another good step forward

Thanks for the sleeve of test balls. I am a 15 handicapper and tried them today in windy conditions. After a 20 minute practice putt to get a good feel for the balls, I was impressed with their responsiveness. The balls seemed a bit more 'lively' off the face of the putter than my normal prov1, (it felt like), but I quickly got used to them. In general I drove well with the ball and it seemed to give good distance and again felt good off the club face. The flight seemed a bit lower than usual but this could have been down to the conditions - although I was trying to keep the ball low and it seemed to work. Iron play was fairly good, good distance from low irons, and reasonable control over shorter distances. There was not huge amount of spin but I did have a bit of 'fizz' on a couple of 8/9 iron shots. The other comment was that the ball seemed very durable as I used the same one for the whole round and it was still in reasonable condition at the end. My instinct is that this ball is a type of NXT, and overall I was very impressed with the ball. Thanks once again for the opportunity and if I have any further feedback from future rounds with the remaining balls I will post it here. Many thanks, Gordon.

    Hi Team Titleist,

Firstly, thank you for sending me the Test Titleist balls.I enjoyed trying them out.

Here is my feedback having played one today at a breezy but mild (12 degrees) Deeside Golf Club in Aberdeen - 26/10/2014:

Durability - 5  stars - played the same ball for 18 holes and ball was like new on completion of round. I played OK but nothing great. A few thins here and there. Ball stood up and remained unmarked throughout round.

Feel - Soft to the touch in hand, however the test ball felt harder off tee with Driver/3 Wood/Hybrid in hand. I would say ball is longer off tee as my tee shots were long either down wind or into the wind. Impressed with the performance.

With the irons it felt good and long also. Drop and stop still evident even though conditions made approach play tricky on the day.

On the greens - good feel. Strong durability helped the true roll of the ball here.

To sum up - durability awesome - the ball felt a touch harder overall, but it still retained the drop and stop and I liked it.

    Hi Titleist,

Thanks for sending through the balls. I have used them this weekend, I usually play with Pro V1, not sure what range these test balls were but here is something I noticed. The ball seems to be firmer than a Pro V and didn't seem to have the same soft feel when chipping or putting, also seemed to run out a lot more than usual, feel around the green is very important to me so I would struggle to use this ball regularly.

However, the ball does go through the wind very well and travels a good distance even in colder autumn conditions I was not losing much, if any distance. The ball was also in very good condition at the end of the round, maybe due to a firm casing? Overall I would say this ball does not live up to the 2014 Pro V, plays more like a mid range ball around the greens but good for those looking for extra distance.

New ball has left me speechless best ball I have ever played shot 39 points today with a ding! It fly's higher, straighter and  longer. More control around the greens. Great roll as always.  Great cover more durable than last model only one tiny knick and used the same ball for hole round. Great control with long Irons as well as with the wedges. Does everything you would expect a Prov1X to do only better. It was blowing a gale today at my course and felt in control of my ball all day did everything it was asked to do! Guys keep up the great work.

    wimborne,

    Dear Titleist

i recieved my prototype golf balls many thanks. i played them today i found them supper around the green with great feel on putting both long and short putts as well as the stopping power when chipping and bunker play. with the irons and woods i found them to be longer than my prov1x by a few yards. the durabilty of these balls were very good getting 18  holes out of 1 ball ball with little to no scuffs on the casing.

all in all another fantastic golf ball by the best

keep up the good work Titleist

    Nottingham,

Many thanks for sending the test balls to me....

Scuttled out at the weekend to try them.....

Seemed to be a much louder click off the clubface when putting....no real issue with that

Great feel around the greens when pitching in and chipping

Just seemed to balloon on the drives ...but there was a noticeable headwind....

did not lose one after 27 holes and the cover durability was very good....

  11. Used the first of the 2014  test balls yesterday - Sunday 26th October .On a very windy day I found the ball flew slightly further and was less affected by the cross winds.Looking forward to my next round on Tuesday

Played this morning with one of the test balls I received last week. It felt very similar to my normal ProV1X ball however the one big difference I noticed was durability. I got to 14 before I noticed any real markings as such.

This impressed me a lot. I often notice that with my Vokey wedges I tend to be left with quite a bit of ball cover left in my grooves. As I have previously mentioned this didn't really happen today but I did notice small scuff marks on the 14th green when lining up my putt.

Great feel and flight as always and to be honest I've come to expect this from any Titleist ball I game.

    All the best.

    Hi guys,

Thank you so much for the sleeve of test balls, which I received last week but have only just managed to get out and test them.

    Course: Brampton Park Golf Club

Usual ball: Pro V1 (or srxn/swoosh softfeel)

    Hcp: 21

Weather: Brilliantly sunny BUT lots of wind!

    Temp: around 18 degrees

    Played the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 17th and 18th in my lunch break.

    1st hole:

Teed up with my 3 wood which I drove in to the wind about 210 yards BUT it was in the centre of the fairway! Something VERY rare off the first tee. As I got under the ball it balloon up quite a distance but still carried far enough forward to give me a straight, but long second shot in to the green.

Teed up a second ball using a new Pro V1, better strike which ended up the left hand side of the fairway in the first cut about 15 yards further on than my first tee shot.

Teed up a third ball (2nd test ball), got under it a little but the ball still flew well past trouble in the form of a bunker on the right hand side of the fairway and more importantly giving me a shot in to the green.

My second shot was in an almost perfect position to get in to the green, albeit with about 180 yards left to the pin!

Hit the green, on the right hand side and three putts later walked off with a net birdy :)

    2nd hole:

Test ball and Pro V1, both hit with the driver and thanks to the big left to right wind (and not my technique:) both balls ended up being carried by the wind way down the right hand side of the fairway BUT fortunately both, having landed within 10 yards of each other were very playable.

However, I picked up and walked to within 70 hards of the pin so I could use my 56 degree wedge and this is where I noticed the difference between the two balls!

I used the three test balls and three new Pro V1's and it was like night and day! For the first time in my life I actually got a golf ball to spin backwards! Each one of the test balls spun backwards between 1 to 3 feet from the initial pitch mark while the "new" Pro V1's checked up and stopped (with no back spin).

I tried this twice (before having to move on as another person was just starting to come off the 1st hole and walk to the tee box. Each time I struck the test balls they did exactly the same thing, pitching, checking and then spinning backwards while the new Pro V1's checked up and stopped on the spot.

    3rd Hole:

5i off the tee, didn't strike the test ball particularly well but still found the middle of the fairway with yet another long second shot in to the green (180 yards). Teed up again with new Pro V1, another dirty strike with the ball landing roughly 20 yards behind the test ball.

2nd shot in to the green was an absolute peach leaving myself a very achievable, and rare, birdie...which I missed but was still happy with a par with the test ball.

    17th Hole:

The tee was set way back on this SI2 par 4 hole. Slight tail wind so I knew if I got a good solid connection with the test ball that I would have the length to get past the trees at the far end of the fairway, which I did but still a little concerned about my drive ending up in the woods!

So I walked down the fairway to where my ball would usually end up (slight slice to the right) and was disheartened that I couldn't find my ball! After searching for an eternity (but probably closer to 30 seconds) I gave up and started to walk down the fairway so I could lob a few more test balls in from 70 yards.

However...as I walked down the fairway I found my drive! Even allowing for a slight tail wind the drive had travelled past where I was looking by about 60 yards! The total distance off the back tee was 284 yards (measured in google maps later:)!!!

The strike off the face felt fantastic, hence why I was slightly confident that the ball would be safe BUT I hadn't realised just how safe it was going to be! This thing far flew down the fairway!

I pitched in a few more shots from 70, 55 and 40 yards as I approached the green and the result was always the same. The test ball checked and spun back from 70 yards and checked up from 55 yards and checked and rolled on from 40 yards. The new Pro V1's checked from 70 yards and then checked and rolled out from 55 and 40 yards!

    18th Hole:

Another monster drive (for me!), 275 yards off the tee and all that without absolutely trying to smack the living daylights out of the ball! The thing that seemed to stand out was the ball just hung up in the air for what seemed an eternity?

From 100 yards I pulled out my 52 degree wedged and once again, with the test ball I achieved something that I had never done before and that was to get the ball to spin backwards. However this one came back at least 10 feet from the pitch mark (which Im positive was mine simply because from the height the ball was coming down from and the softness of the green there was no other pitch mark anywhere on the green).

The new Pro V1 pitched and rolled on slightly.

    Conclusion:

In the brief testing I had today over 5 holes in relatively windy, yet brilliantly sunny conditions the test balls were notable for how far they flew off the face of the club, even on miss hits AND their performance around the green!

Off the 2nd tee there was quite a big slice BUT both the test ball and the new Pro V1 did exactly the same thing. However on the other miss hit tee shots it felt like the test ball out performed the new ball quite easily.

However around the greens the test balls were absolute kings! I've never managed to get a ball to spin backwards in my life but with the test balls this was happening almost at will. The amount of backspin was astonishing!

I tried embedding a link to a youtube clip above but not sure if it worked so here is the link directly to footage from todays testing. Apoligies for the camera angles and dodgy swing :)

Tried the test balls at the weekend (red number) - very stable in the breeze, and compared to my usual ProV1x, they felt softer with a little more spin around the greens.

Distance was comparable to the existing ProV1x, ball flight similar too.

Please leave your feedback in this discussion post.

I have just tried one of the test balls kindly sent to me and feel there is an improvement on the existing Pro V1 that I am using.

The ball seems a touch softer with a slightly higher flight and about 5 yards distance gain with the driver.

It held it's line well in the 10 mph breeze that I was playing in and could be shaped as needed without too much difficulty.

It putted well on greens reading about 9.5 on a stimpmeter and stopped well on approach shots with ample bite on short pitch shots.

I look forward to using the other two balls and hope results are similar,it is a ball I would recommend.

( I have changed my email address since my original registration at Team Titleist, could you please link the two accounts as the original address is now unavailable)

  17. I used the ball this weekend and i have to say it was impressive.

The durability of the ball was excellent.  After 18 holes it still looked brand new.

It was very stable in the wind compared to the previous model assuming i was using a ProV1x which i normally use.

Distance was good nothing lost hard to tell if anything was gained due to conditions

Slightly higher launch of the driver.

The spin was impressive around the greens and from 7 iron down.  I have played ProV1x for years and have not seen spin like it.  The test ball was impressive.  It would take some getting used to in soft conditions but mid summer with firm greens it would be perfect.

I look forward to playing them next season and if your sending some out please consider me for them.

    Thanks

    Mark

    Hi Titleist,

many thanks for the the prototype balls received last week.

Am guessing mine are the next generation PRO V1 ,great feel as you would expect, this version has a softer feel and after 18 holes I would say is more durable than the current ball as not a mark of any kind at all ball still looks barand new and will be used again for round two this weekend.

Look forward to these being made available as will definately be buying.

Second round with test ball. Again excellent feel off club. Felt like better distance than my usual ball. (vary prov1 or mid price titleist balls) Certainly impressed so far with ball. Putting and chipping felt as though sweet spot hit regularly. Would like to think this was me,but ball does genuinely feel sweet on the clubs. I am certainly heading towards very impressed with this test ball. John Clark

    Dornoch,

Firstly, thank you for selecting me to test these balls. I never play with anything other than ProV so to get these to trial was a buzz.

I grabbed the clubs and headed straight off to the course (Royal Dornoch) with my brother who I gave a ball to try out as well. The first thing I noticed was that it felt to 'png' off the face more than my usual ProV X, and despite it being only 10.c and blowing quite a stiff 25mph wind, the ball was still flying true with no loss of distance to summer golf.

I got to the 7th where it was playing downwind and smashed one. I then hit a 2013 ProV X and hit it what I thought was better but it came up a good 10-15 paces shorter. The test ball responds great to shot making, cutting or drawing into or down wind. It rolls very well off the putter face, although with having not played in around 3wks, it took a couple of greens to get the feel of it. It really responds well to wedges, taking a lot of spin when you play for it although as with all ProVs, it cut up quite quickly (normally use a pack per round because of my Vokeys ripping the covers)

My brother, who plays off 11 also thought it was great, normally playing a big cut, he swore that it flew straighter.

All in all, a very good ball. I'm looking forward to seeing if it indeed is the new ProV X, at least I'm hoping that it is after putting birdie on all but 3 greens and that's after a pretty bad season through injury and having put the clubs away 3wks ago with the intention of a winter break. I think I've got the bug back already.

    Cheers Titleist.

Thank you Titleist for sending me a sleeve of the Titleist red numeral balls to test.

I have played two qualifying medals and a  roll-up round with the ball and it has stood up well, a few small bruises from full wedges but nothing that would make me take it out of play. I suggest this years version is a little  hardier than the last which scuff up a little faster.

I am 6 handicap and the two qualifiers were both within buffer which suggested that the ball plays similarly to my normal Pro V1 although I am guessing this is the new Pro V1x as it feels slightly firmer.

Without trackman data all my finding are subjective, however, if this is the new X ball then I might well change from my `normal` Pro V as this ball performs well, possibly a tad longer off the tee, has plenty of check into the green and feels good off the putter.

The ball appears a little whiter than the 2013 version and shows up well, however, a yellow Pro V would be even better against the leaden skies at this time of year.

To sum up this is another great offering from the Titleist stable and I see no reason why the Pro V  will not continue to be my preferred ball for next year as in my opinion they continue to set the bench mark for golf ball performance.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to test the balls.

    Bob.

I was delighted to receive my sleeve of test balls - many thanks.   I played a full round at Kingsbarns today and despite being in several bunkers the ball is completely unmarked.   I was delighted with the feel, the distance and its true flight.   I am a 12 handicap player and still cannot get spin on the greens but that has nothing to do with the ball.   All things being considered I would definitely be inclined to buy this new ball and would certainly like to know the model name (if it has one yet).  It would also be great if it comes a bit cheaper than the ProV1?

    Thanks again

    Hi

thanks again Titleist for sending me the test balls

my overriding difference between the ball tested and my normal prov1 would be the durability of the new balls , I was able to complete 18 holes with the same ball usually I would change mid round , I played in windy conditions (25-35) mph  with the ball performing well , driver spin in my option was slightly lower than my usual ball and around the greens and off the putter very similar to the prov1 2013 model

I would be very keen to know if this is the prov1 for 2015  or nxt s ? as it would be a ball I would be keen to game

  24. Thanks for the test balls.

Compared with my current batch of ProVx.

Putting seems similar, although strangely I holed a greater percentage of test ball putts!

    Seven iron same distances.

3 wood similar distance and same with driver.

On balance I'd say there was little if any difference compared to current ProVx - which is probably more of a reflection of my ability than the new ball; it's certainly not worse. I'll continue with ProVx as this supports my view that it's the best ball for me.
