Based on recommendation from local Titleist rep and fitter, they put the average golfer in a 56.10S. For a good sand wedge.

I've been going between K grind bent 2* strong (60-14K to 58) and D grind. D's biggest advantage is flop shots and sometimes it works better off firm lies. I can play K grind, as I described, from a tight lie but play it back.

For my "gap" wedge, I play a 54-14F bent to 52. Swings better vs 52-12F. The shortcoming of S grind is long bunker shots from soft sand and the shortcoming of D Grind is firm lies.

What you see in my thumbnail is my wedge setup has pretty much returned to where I started out almost 2 years ago (with one enhancement: 62-08M set to 61 for firm lies and the obvious upgrade to SM10 in Apr 2024). K grind at 56-58 loft has been a fixture since 2018; however, been tinkering with various forms of D grind between 52-58* (54-12D and 58-12D) since 2023. For almost 6 years had been using a PM grind 64/10, aka “Phil 64”. I’ve been playing a 62-08M for 4 months at stock.

In 2023, had to see what all the hype was about T grind. Played it as a lob wedge mainly for hard lies. And then a local clubfitter talked me into a low bounce K; a little more versatile vs T grind because I could also play on some soft lies. So the combo had been 58-12D (56-57*) and the 60-06K with the 64.

48-10F at 46 has been a fixture as a PW for over 3 years now. I had played a 54-10S (52*) for almost 2 years as a gap wedge because it worked better vs 52-08F; the weak point was it was mediocre for long bunker shots. 54-12D at 52 was ok for long bunker shots but the shortcoming was firm lies. 52-12F seemed to fit the bill for versatility but the main issue is it didn’t hit as well as a 54-12D at 52*.

I briefly had a GT2 7 wood but found out that my 910F hit better. The fitter let me try out a 58K* (even trade) it did better out of soft sand at 59* but was absolutely atrocious off tight lies. I returned it and got a new 54-14F and set it to 52*; swings way better vs 52-12F and it is very versatile. I also have been doing very well with 58-12K. Took the 60-14K and 54-12D back and got a GT2 13.5 (which works great with a Diamana 70 shaft at 42.5 and with a +2 head weight). The 62-08M at 61* is actually way more versatile vs 60-06K (did get 8 months of use on and off). What goes around comes around. 46-52-58-64 with 62-08M at 61*; Torrey Pines is toast.

Since my last post, 60-14K and 62-08M (58-61) have been a fixture; however, I saw a Wedgeworks 58V in the demo bin. The V grind worked pretty well on the course yesterday on various lies. The K-M combo is for course conditions.

K grind picks the ball better vs D grind. Been using K grind on and off for 7 years.
